LEAF CITY: The Architecture of Coexistence
Installation, 2024-2026
In LEAF CITY, the blueprint of a city is found in the intricate structure of a single leaf. Nature
holds the ultimate design for harmonious coexistence, where every element is interconnected
yet distinct in function. A leaf’s veins map out an organic network, symbolizing how we can
design urban spaces that are intelligent, natural, and collectively sustainable.
Drawing inspiration from the patterns in leaves, this project suggests that the architecture of our
cities can mimic the organization of nature. Just as a leaf balances its resources to support life,
cities can use collective intelligence—both natural and artificial—to balance their elements:
infrastructure, ecosystems, and social fabric. Through LEAF CITY, we explore how urban spaces can be structured like a living leaf, where
every part, from residential areas to transport systems, works in harmony to nurture collective
growth. This proposal envisions a future where architecture evolves beyond concrete and steel,
using biomimicry and artificial intelligence to foster sustainable, interconnected cities that thrive
like the natural world.
Key Principles:
Intelligence in Design: Drawing from the natural intelligence in the patterns of a leaf, urban
design becomes a reflection of organic systems.
Natural and Artificial Integration: The fusion of natural design and artificial intelligence to create
cities that are adaptable and resilient.
Collective Coexistence: Every element of the city, like a leaf’s cells, plays a role in the larger
system, ensuring balance, sustainability, and growth.
Through this concept, LEAF CITY proposes that by following the architecture of nature, we can
create future cities that live and breathe, much like the natural world that sustains us.

The funky political aspect of air in Yerevan
For me, it’s hard to speak about air pollution in Yerevan. On November 30, 2025, there was a protest regarding the air situation in Yerevan. It got some media attention, so there were some reels on Instagram. One of the most viral comments said:
It had 197 likes, many of whom are my subscribers and people from creative industries (maybe including you!).
The air situation in Yerevan for Russian emigrants is funky. On one hand, telling Armenians how to live is strictly unethical for many Russian emigrants. We relocated to Yerevan protesting the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Reflection upon the invasion is what most of the Russian decolonial discourse is based upon.
Basically, this discourse states that the involvement of others’ customs and traditions is unethical. So the good emigrant is the one who carefully observes others’ customs, studies others’ history, and listens rather than argues.
Thus, how Armenia decides to deal with air pollution is only Armenia’s decision.
On the other hand, the ultimate form of observing Armenian customs and culture might be the decision to live here, пустить корни, raise children here, open a business here. For some emigrants, the will to be involved in the political life of Armenia comes from the will to consider Armenia as a home in the long run—or even permanently.
But can this political involvement itself become a form of integration?
Based on Shushan Grigoryan’s study about Russian eco-activism in Yerevan, migrant participation in environmental protests may paradoxically lead to deeper engagement with Armenian culture and local politics.
If we consider colonial as something that comes down from above, then the network of local Russian eco-activism should be considered de-colonial...?
Idk, хз.

Functions of breathing
2026
Functions of Breathing is a sonic composition accompanied by an audio-reactive video, both derived from a single recording of breathing sounds.
The breathing is transformed through changes in pitch, tempo, stereo imaging, and reverberation, exploring how poor air quality can affect our breathing patterns, creating a sense of stress and discomfort, as though the air we breathe is no longer enough. At the same time, breathing becomes the body’s natural metronome: its changing rhythm determines the tempo of the composition and drives the visual responses, translating fluctuations in breath into movement and visual effects.
All rhythmic patterns, textures, sounds, and visual reactions originate from this single recording,
turning a primary biological function into the material and temporal structure of the work.

The Breathing of the City and Nature
Installation, 2026
The large, partially smoked lungs appear as an organism that is no longer only part of the human body; they become the shared breathing of the city, industry, and nature. Here, the thread becomes smoke, a pipe, a boundary, and a trace: what humans have built for their comfort gradually becomes the environment that takes away their right to breathe.
The lily of the valley, delicate, white, fragrant, and beautiful, conceals toxicity in its nature. It thus becomes a parallel to the factory: both can beautify and poison at the same time. The flower brings beauty and fragrance into the home, but carries poison within. This contradiction lies at the core of the work: humans create beauty, sometimes without noticing its cost. We breathe the world we have created ourselves.
Can we live in a world where development and beauty no longer require the sacrifice of nature and human lungs? This lung has not yet completely stopped breathing. And for this reason, the work is not about death, but about a warning. As long as there is breath, there is a choice.
The lung simply breathes—silently, continuously, without demanding our attention. But when the air becomes heavy, the lung ceases to be merely an organ of the body and becomes a mirror of our time. Each smoking pipe here is a thread stretched between human progress and human self-destruction. The lilies of the valley, delicate, white, and almost innocent, are attached to the trachea. They remind us that poison does not always come in a frightening form. Sometimes it comes in the form of a flower. Sometimes as comfort. Sometimes as a development. Sometimes everything we call a “good life.” How much beauty do we need in order not to notice the poison? And at what point does a person realise that the world they have created no longer allows them to breathe? Perhaps the greatest luxury of the future will simply be to breathe in clean air and be certain that it will not kill us.

Lichens
Paper, colored pencil, 2016
Lichens are composite organisms consisting of a fungus and algae or/and cyanobacteria, living
in a symbiotic relationship. Lichens can be found everywhere: on soil, trunks and twigs of trees,
as well as on stones and other substrates. The geographical position, relief and climate of
Armenia are reflected in its rich biological diversity and high level of endemism. About 600
species of lichens are known from the country. The first studies of lichens in Armenia were
conducted in the 19th century. One of the first scientists to study lichens in Armenia was J.
Steiner, who recorded 10 lichen species from the suburbs of Yerevan (Steiner 1899).

PERFECT BLUE
53 variations of Cyanometer
Sound art installation, 2026
53 vinyl records, 4 turntables, 2-channel sound, atmospheric data, custom software, generative audio synthesis
Perfect Blue is a data-driven interactive sound installation exploring the relationship between colour, environmental data and vibration. Inspired by the Cyanometer, an instrument historically used to measure the blueness of the sky, the work translates a 53-step gradient of blue into a corresponding field of audible frequencies.
Environmental data collected by the Cyanometer shapes the temporal and sonic behaviour of these frequencies through generative synthesis. The resulting compositions are transferred onto 53 vinyl records and played across four turntables. By selecting, combining and mixing the records, visitors navigate a vast field of possible sonic configurations, where atmospheric data,
mathematical relationships and physical sound continuously interact. The work is still in progress, and its concept and digital version are presented here. The final version of the work
will be presented in November 2026.
