Whist Jimmy's tragic loss is not a Domestic Violence Target Offending, I am placing it under that awareness.

Van Viet Truong or affectionately known as 'Jimmy' had run his grocery store with his with for 30 years.

But his life was visciously stolen from him on Wednesday by 5 Adolescent Children.

🚩Three boys aged 12, 13 and 15 and two 14-year-old girls were charged with a series of assault-related offences including affray, violent disorder and intentionally causing serious injury.

Good Samaritan dies days after being attacked while trying to stop Melbourne shoplifters

🚩Council flags are flying at half-mast in honour of a good Samaritan who died days after he was allegedly attacked by shoplifting youths outside a Melbourne shopping strip.

🚩Van Viet Truong was critically injured after he rushed to the aid of a fellow retail worker trying to stop the group stealing clothes in Sunshine in Melbourne’s west on Saturday, police allege.

🚩The Hồng Hưng Asian Grocery store owner was taken to hospital but died on Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed on Thursday.

🚩Three boys aged 12, 13 and 15 and two 14-year-old girls were charged with a series of assault-related offences including affray, violent disorder and intentionally causing serious injury.

🚩Detectives upgraded the 15-year-old’s charges to include manslaughter on Thursday following Truong’s death.

🚩Charges against the 13-year-old boy were earlier withdrawn.

🚩The four other youths were remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

🚩Floral tributes outside the Hampshire Road store, which has been a mainstay on the strip for more than two decades, were growing on Thursday afternoon as mourners stopped to pay their respects.

🚩A note on the shop’s roller door said it would be closed until further notice due to an unexpected family emergency.

🚩The 60-year-old’s death has devastated local traders including Julie Tran, whose Vietnamese restaurant, Thuận An, is doors down from where the street scuffle unfolded.

🚩“He was always really friendly to all the businesses. When we walked past his store he’d always say ‘hi’ and smile,” she told AAP

🚩His wife and his mother-in-law were always there with him, it was the three of them constantly there running the store.”

🚩Traders have long called for help from the council and state government in addressing rising antisocial behaviour, crime and mental health concerns.

🚩They could have made a change. It didn’t have to take a person to die for them actually try to push for this further,” Tran said.

🚩Since opening her restaurant 18 years ago, Tran said the shopping strip has become a hub for crime and antisocial behaviour.

🚩“We’re here to make a living. We shouldn’t have to be on edge every time we go to work,” she said.

🚩Crime in the Brimbank council area is at its highest rate in six years and is almost 9% higher than the Victorian average, recent Crime Statistics Agency figures show.

🚩The Laverton MP, Sarah Connolly, and the new police minister, Paul Edbrooke, met traders on Wednesday to hear traders’ concerns.

🚩Truong was described as a pillar of the community, a generous supporter and a kind friend by Brimbank mayor Virginia Tachos.

🚩The council will continue to lobby the state government for a sustained increase in police numbers, Tachos said.

Savannah was only 25 years old. She had only recently married her husband in 2024 , moved into their own home and they were building their futures together.

🚩 Instead whilst under the influence he stole a car and caused absolute chaos on Resevoir Road in Cairns.

🚩 If that's not enough he then carjacks a 71 elderly man , forcing him to drive away from the scene.

🚩 Police have now charged 36-year-old Jake Edward Warn with manslaughter, stealing and showing callous disregard for an injured person.

🚫 But if he was in Prison where he should have been in the first place, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED

💜 Savannah’s family released a statement on Friday paying tribute to their “beautiful Savannah”.

“Our family would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us during the horrific loss of our beautiful Savannah,” the statement says.

“We are beyond devastated by her passing. Savannah was beautiful inside and out, with a smile that lit up every room… She has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.”

Savannah and her partner Lachie were only just beginning the next chapter of their lives together, having built a new home in Cairns, the family said.

"To have that future taken away so suddenly is something our family is struggling to comprehend,” the statement said.

They also thanked detectives and emergency services for their professionalism and compassion throughout the investigation, saying their support “has meant more to us than words can express”.

🇦🇺🕯A candlelight vigil to honour Savannah’s life will be held at Fogarty Park on Sunday from 5.30pm.

“As we try to come to terms with the loss of our precious Savannah, we ask for privacy as we grieve and support one another through the days and weeks ahead,” the family said.

“Savannah will be loved always, remembered forever, and never forgotten.”

💭 I Had a Dream...

I had a dream I lived in a 🇦🇺Country where we had an Australian Prime Minister who truly cared about his people and the social crises affecting our nation.

I dreamt he stood alongside Men as they advocated for Male Mental Health and Su***de Awareness.

He quietly walked past the 2,500 pairs of men's boots placed on the lawns of Parliament House, each pair representing one Australian man lost to su***de. He stopped. He listened. He spoke with grieving families and thanked them for having the courage to tell their stories.

I dreamt he attended a candlelight vigil for the latest woman killed by her partner.

He stood shoulder to shoulder with the community. He didn't rush in for a photo opportunity. He simply stood there... listening, feeling the grief, acknowledging the pain.

I dreamt he visited the little boy lying in a hospital bed after losing both his mum and dad in a devastating murder-su***de.

He sat beside him, looked him in the eyes and said,

"Hello. I'm the Prime Minister of Australia. What would you like to be when you grow up?"

Just a simple question...

But one that offered a child, whose world had just been shattered, a tiny glimpse of hope that his country had not forgotten him.

I liked that dream.

It wasn't a perfect country.

💔There was still tragedy.

💔There was still heartbreak.

But the difference was...

People weren't being ignored.

Victims were being seen.

Families were being heard.

Communities were being acknowledged.

There was leadership.

Then...

Residents of a small town where a pregnant woman and man died in a suspected murder-su***de while a child was inside have described the “frightening” situation.

A small town in rural Queensland is in “shock” after a 23-year-old pregnant woman and a 45-year-old man were found dead inside a home in a suspected murder-su***de,while a child was inside.

Police were called to a house on King St, Charleville - about 700km west of Brisbane - about 6pm on Wednesday after reports of a “serious assault”.

Residents of the small town were urged to stay inside for about eight hours as police negotiated with a person inside.

Assistant Commissioner Matthew Vanderbyl said on Thursday the negotiation became “quite dynamic and quite threatening … quite quickly” to officers on the scene.

“They withdrew to a point of safety,” he said.

Negotiators were there at that point, and specialist police were then activated in a line from Brisbane.”

He said it was “too early” to determine if the incident was domestic-violence-related or if there were mental health concerns.

“The circumstances of all the people involved will be thoroughly examined as part of the wider investigation,” he said.

A toddler was also at the scene and taken to Charleville Hospital about 6pm in a stable condition with a minor leg laceration.

Police declared a Public Safety Preservation Act for the area, which was revoked shortly after 1.40am on Thursday.

“No police officers or members of the public were injured during the incident,” a statement read.

Mr Vanderbyl said the young child found at the scene was safe and in another person’s care.

He said the deaths would shake the small town, which had a population of about 3000 people.

“These types of events rock any community badly, let alone a smaller community, where everyone is known to each other,” he said.

“It is something that will have a tragic impact on the wider community of Charleville, and not the least of friends and relatives of the deceased, who our thoughts must remain with today as well.”

Residents told The Courier-Mail the couple were usually “very quiet” and often see “working in the yard”.

Veronica Hickson, who has lived in the area for a long time, said there were “loads of cars” in the street and officers “everywhere with guns”.

“It is a little bit frightening, when it happened nearly across the road from where you’re living, she said.

Longtime resident and business owner Kade Radnedge said the phone was ringing off the hook to make sure everyone was OK.

“I’ves been here for 25 years and I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said.

“It’s a shock to the community, it’s a daunting feeling (because) you know what’s going to happen next.”

Online, residents said they could hear a convoy of police vehicles driving to the rural Queensland home.

“Lots of police vehicles under lights and siren from Brisbane Toowoomba and Dalby heading that way,” one person wrote.

The number of ambulances, police cars etc heading up is alarming,” said another.
