A piece of Brisbane’s civic history, now part of the Museum of Brisbane Collection.

Earlier this year, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner donated his retired Lord Mayoral Robe to the Museum of Brisbane Collection, ensuring this significant piece remains preserved as part of Brisbane’s cultural record. Featuring intricate copper thread embroidery and ceremonial detailing, the robe reflects the distinctive design and symbolism associated with the office of Lord Mayor.

Pictured with MoB CEO/Director Zoe Graham, Lord Mayor Schrinner recently visited the collection to view the robe alongside other civic objects held by Museum of Brisbane.

This World Embroidery Day 🧵we’re celebrating every stitch behind The Red Dress with moments from our special Behind the Seams event with British artist Kirstie Macleod, as she installed the long-awaited garment at MoB.

Created over 14 years by more than 380 embroiderers across 51 countries, this internationally recognised collaborative project celebrates extraordinary craftsmanship while sharing the stories and perspectives of its many contributors, including the Australian contribution by Brisbane’s Allthreads Embroidery community.
