Years ago, a cervical injury left me unable to work for 6 months. Cervical spinal surgery helped but by then after fighting for treatment with WorkCover for 2 years I could barely move and was so debilitated I could not return to the work I love as a nurse.
Essential oils, gentle movement, and consistent routines helped me build my strength - slowly. I returned to the work I love but I hear many stories where people 's pain prevents them from living life and enjoying the simple pleasures such as walking daily my favourite activity. See my video of one of my recent walks.
This is why I do what I do today.

Healing Isn't Linear
๐Some days you'll feel strong.
๐Other days you'll feel like you're starting again .
๐Both are normal. Both are progress.
๐Keep going - gently.
In the acute phase of my injury, my physio would say "pace yourself". ๐ค๐ค What did that means? What did it look like? On the days I felt better I would try and push through only to then have more bad days than good. But keep going, find what works for you. Remember to pace yourself and enjoy life when you can. Today, I still have pain but I am back at work, can exercise and have quality of life and you can too ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ.
Today's walk.

How Pain Affects Your Mood
๐ Pain isn't only physical.
๐ Low sleep + constant discomfort can create brain "fog" and emotional fatigue.
๐ You are not imagining it.
๐ You've not overreacting.
๐ Your body is asking for compassion.
When I was in the acute phase of my spinal injury I tried to keep going. Working, caring for my kids and my elderly father. Stopping was not an option but then I became overwhelmed and fatigued and my body forced me to stop and slow down. My physio's constant mantra "pace yourself", in my mind ๐ค๐ค what's that? I was used to being able to do whatever I asked of my body whether it was work, exercise or caring for my family. Until one day I couldn't do it anymore.
But I learnt, life is different now. And I do pace myself. I returned to work and have a quality of life I never thought was possible back then. Doesn't mean I don't have pain but I learnt to treat myself with compassion.
How has pain impacted your life?

You're Not Lazy. You've Exhausted From Surviving Pain.
๐Pain drains energy in a way most people never see.
๐If you're tired today, it's not a character flaw - it's your body working overtime.
๐Be kind to yourself.
๐Rest is part of healing.
Why Pain Makes It So Hard to Sleep
When you live with chronic pain, falling asleep isn't just "trying harder". Your nervous system stays alert because it thinks you need protection.
Tonight, try this:
๐ Warm shower
๐ Lavender peace on your temples
๐ Slow belly breathing for 60 seconds
Your body deserves gentle support.
