I’ve been rediscovering my love of handmade card making this week.
Inspired by vintage travel journals and the rich colours and textures of the Middle East, each card has been individually created using layers of vintage-style papers, lace, stamps, tickets and embellishments. No two are exactly alike.
They’re perfect to frame, give as a special card, or tuck away with a thoughtful handwritten note.
Now available in store.
Handmade cards – $6.50 each🧡🍃
I’ve also made a matching journal for anyone who loves recording their own adventures.
The King has arrived. 🎙️👑
Today’s new arrivals are all Elvis Presley, with a fantastic mix of studio albums, movie soundtracks, live performances and collector editions spanning the 1950s through to the 1980s.
Whether you’re looking for the soundtrack to California Holiday, the country sound of Elvis Country, a classic greatest hits album, or a live performance to transport you back to the concert hall, there’s something here for every Elvis fan.
These records have just been unpacked and will be available in store from Saturday.
Which one would you take home?

These vintage No. 4 smoothing planes have spent decades helping craftspeople create beautifully finished timber.
The Stanley became one of the world’s best-known hand plane makers, while Footprint, from Sheffield, England, earned a reputation for producing quality tools trusted by generations of woodworkers.
Designed as finishing planes, a No. 4 was traditionally the final tool used before applying polish or paint, leaving timber so smooth it often needed little or no sanding.
Whether you’re a collector, a furniture maker, or simply appreciate the craftsmanship of traditional hand tools, these are pieces of history that were built to be used.
Now available in store at Kitten Vintage Mackay.

There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about Johnson Bros Australia. While the Johnson Brothers name began in Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1883, Australian production started in Victoria in 1957, bringing classic English designs to homes across the country.
These sturdy earthenware and stoneware sets were made to be used every day—morning cups of tea, family dinners, Sunday desserts and countless conversations around the kitchen table. Their durability is one of the reasons so many have survived to become treasured vintage pieces today.
I especially love these two patterns currently in the shop (and on the website)
One captures the earthy fruit motifs so popular in the 1970s, while the other features bold floral designs that instantly transport you back to an Australian kitchen of the era.
Did you grow up with Johnson Bros on the table?

After many years of six-day weeks (and many seven-day ones behind the scenes), it’s time for a small change.
From next week, Kitten Vintage will be open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am–4 pm, and we’ll be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
I’ve realised that if I want to keep doing what I love for many years to come, I need to look after myself too. Being sick twice this month was the reminder I needed.
Don’t worry—I know myself well enough to know one of those “days off” will probably still involve photographing stock, writing blogs, or treasure hunting! But I’m hoping the other might occasionally be spent exploring a little more of Queensland, finding inspiration, and coming back refreshed.
Thank you for supporting this little dream. Your encouragement over the past nine years has made it all possible, and I’m looking forward to sharing many more vintage finds and stories with you.

Blue Willow has been telling the same romantic story for more than 200 years.
From delicate teacups to generous dinner plates, every piece hides the famous willow tree, bridge, pagoda, boat and two birds waiting to be discovered.
If you’ve ever wondered why this pattern has remained one of the world’s most collected china designs, I’ve written all about its history, the legend behind it, and how to recognise it💙

A gift with a century of stories…
One of our lovely customers surprised me today with this beautiful antique receipt book.
The first entries date from 1913, written in elegant copperplate and recorded in pounds, shillings and pence, long before Australia changed to decimal currency.
Imagine the hands that held this little book. The businesses it recorded. The deposits, payments and promises made more than 110 years ago.
The marbled cover, the ornate printed borders and those beautiful blank pages remind us that even the most ordinary objects can become extraordinary with time.
It’s a wonderful addition to my growing collection of paper history—and I think it may even inspire a few of the handmade journals I’ve been creating.
Thank you to the kind customer who thought of me. I’ll treasure it.

Looking for a gift for the man who says he doesn’t need anything?
I’ve been putting together this antique counter with pieces chosen for the collector, the traveller, the history lover and the writer.
Vintage cameras, briar and cherrywood pipes, handmade leather journals, fountain pens, pocket watches, compasses, motoring memorabilia, woodworking tools and plenty of one-of-a-kind curiosities you won’t find in a department store.
Some are old, some are new but they all have a story.
Pop in, grab a coffee, and have a browse. You never know what you’ll discover.
