This week, I received yet another inquiry for an indoor farm.

As is often the case, the conversation started with a simple question:
"Can you provide us with a quotation?"
Twenty minutes later, we were no longer talking about the farm itself.
We were talking about:
✅ Market demand
✅ Labor costs
✅ Logistics
✅ Energy
✅ Financing
✅ Risk

That's what many people underestimate.
Building a farm is an engineering project.
Making a farm profitable is a business project.

The technology to successfully grow crops indoors exists today.
LED lighting, irrigation systems, climate control, automation...
These are all important pieces of the puzzle.

But they are not what ultimately determines whether a project succeeds.
The real questions are:
👉 Who is going to buy the product?
👉 At what price?
👉 How much labor will be required?
👉 What is the impact of energy costs?
👉 When will the investment pay for itself?

That's why at Urban Crop Solutions, we rarely start with the question:
"What kind of farm do you want to build?"
Instead, we prefer to ask:
"What problem are you trying to solve?"

Because the most successful indoor farms don't start with a grow room.
They start with a solid business case.

Jarenlang werd vertical farming naar voren geschoven als dé oplossing voor de toekomst van voedselproductie. De realiteit vandaag is genuanceerder — en net daarom interessanter.
