Posted a video yesterday of this cutie rolling around like crazy on her scratcher! Her parents had a delay, so I get another bonus day with her and her kitty roommate.

Her roommate is currently hanging out in her safe spot under the bed, and I never invade her space. I do just enough around the home to make sure she feels comfortable and engaged without forcing interaction. I won’t get down on my hands and knees to stare under the bed, as both an apex predator AND a prey species, that kind of direct pressure would be terrifying for her!

Instead, I gave her space and did just enough passive interaction to get some sweet slow-blinks back. In the meantime, I’m getting some snuggle time in with Miku.

Time really flies when you’re living with the sweetest soul. Happy 6th Birthday, Delilah! Truly so grateful every single day to have you by my side.

Staring at a Lot Doesn’t Build a House and Staring at Each Other Doesn’t Build a Relationship

You can’t build a home without tools, and staring at the materials isn’t going to build it either.

When introducing or re-introducing cats, the goal isn’t just “getting them together.” It starts with helping each cat learn about themselves first, building their own confidence, resilience, and impulse control in isolation.

Before forcing two cats to figure each other out, we give them individual tools through positive reinforcement, stationing, and target training. Once a cat feels completely secure in their own skin, we can begin very subtle, controlled desensitization and counter-conditioning to foster a genuine potential relationship.

And please, step away from the online noise telling you to feed their nutritious meals on opposite sides of a door hoping they’ll magically become best friends.

High-value meals belong in a quiet sanctuary zone, not forced at a high-stress boundary line.

Every cat is an individual, and every dynamic requires individualized support. Before taking advice, do your research on who you’re learning from. Ask about their formal education, credentials, and hands-on experience. Loving cats is wonderful, but professional feline behavioural guidance is what keeps homes peaceful.

Ever wondered why blue-eyed cats seem to seek out cloudy days or shaded spots? It’s not just a cute quirk, it’s fascinating ocular science!

Unlike brown or yellow eyes, blue cat eyes contain almost no melanin (pigment) in the iris. That striking blue shade is actually an optical effect called Rayleigh scattering, the exact same physical phenomenon that makes the sky look blue!

Here is why bright sunlight can feel a bit overwhelming for them:

No Built-In Sunglasses: Iris melanin acts as a natural barrier to absorb excess light. Without it, far more glare penetrates into the eye.
Low-Light Architecture: Feline retinas are overwhelmingly packed with rod photoreceptors designed for low light (dusk and dawn). Combine a rod-heavy retina with low iris melanin, and direct sun quickly leads to mild photophobia (light sensitivity).

So if your blue-eyed cutie loves overcast mornings or hides behind the furniture on sunny afternoons, their eyes are simply adapting to the light!

Long weekends mean getting to make my rounds and see some of my absolute favorite familiar faces, like Wilbur!

When I’m getting to know a new feline client, trust comes first, and cats use nose-to-nose sniffing as a real conversation. Their scent system (including the vomeronasal organ) is so complex that a single sniff tells them everything about who you are.

While I love a quick kiss, I’m really just giving this new friend the chance to check my credentials. It’s mutual communication and respect first!
