One of the biggest misconceptions about therapy is that your therapist is supposed to have all the answers. The goal isn't to fix you—it's to help you better understand yourself, recognize unhelpful patterns, and create space for meaningful change. Because the most lasting growth comes from what you discover along the way.

People pleasing is often treated like a flaw, but for many people, it began as a way to stay safe, avoid conflict, or protect important relationships. Therapy isn't about getting rid of this part of you. It's about understanding why it's there, recognizing when it's showing up, and learning that you have more choices than you may think.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that being busy means we're being productive. But constantly feeling stressed isn't the only way to get things done. It's a learned pattern, and like many learned patterns, it can be unlearned.

Acupuncture uses thin, sterile needles to stimulate targeted nerves and muscles, helping regulate pain, reduce muscle tension, and support recovery. Dr. Akram also offers dry needling and electro-acupuncture, depending on each patient’s needs. It can be helpful for many people with musculoskeletal pain or tightness, but may not be appropriate for everyone, including those with certain bleeding risks, skin infections, needle sensitivities, or implanted electrical devices. Your medical history and treatment options will always be reviewed beforehand.

This hands-on technique combines gentle shoulder traction (distraction) with external rotation to help restore comfortable shoulder motion. Traction can reduce joint compression and calm pain-sensitive tissues, while guiding the shoulder into external rotation can improve mobility needed for reaching overhead, reaching behind your head, and lifting.

In clinic, we often use this to help with stiff, painful shoulders—especially when external rotation feels blocked. The goal is to decrease guarding, improve range of motion, and make strengthening exercises feel easier and more effective. Manual therapy can create the “window” of movement—then we keep the gains with a progressive exercise plan.

IASTM uses specialized tools to apply controlled pressure to muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. It may help reduce pain and muscle tension, improve mobility, and support recovery from overuse injuries or stiffness. Although demonstrated here on the forearm, IASTM can be used on many areas of the body. It may not be appropriate over open wounds, active skin infections, acute injuries, or for individuals with certain bleeding or bruising risks, so treatment is always based on an individual assessment.

Therapy isn't about someone telling patients what to do or trying to "fix" you. Our Mental Health Consultant, Prachi, sees it as a space to slow down, get curious, and better understand the patterns, emotions, and experiences that have shaped you.

Her approach is trauma-informed, mindfulness-based, and tailored to her patients. Her goal is to help patients understand themselves with more compassion, so she can help them move through life with greater intention.

This sidelying external rotation hold targets the shoulder's external rotators (rotator cuff), which help keep the shoulder's ball centred in the socket during lifting, pressing, and overhead movements. With the elbow at 90° and a light dumbbell, the goal is to hold the position without letting the arm drop—building strength and endurance where the shoulder often loses control.

Benefits include improved shoulder stability, better posture and mechanics during training, and more resilience for activities like throwing, pushing, and reaching overhead. It's a simple exercise, but it's a great way to reinforce rotator cuff control and reduce overload on larger muscles that try to compensate.

Microneedling is a treatment designed to stimulate the skin’s natural healing response.

By creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, microneedling helps encourage collagen production, which can improve the appearance of acne scars, uneven texture, fine lines, and overall skin tone.

It’s a great option for those looking to support smoother, healthier-looking skin over time.

Dr. Insalaco provides microneedling at our Kingsway clinic. Click the link below to book an appointment.
