What occurred reflects a pattern that Black and racialized legal professionals know all too well. From the racial profiling of Jason Bogle, to the discrimination recognized by the court in the matter involving Selwyn Pieters, B.A., LL.B., L.E.C., these incidents show that bias continues to surface in places that are meant to represent fairness and justice.

Black legal professionals should be able to carry out their duties without suspicion, humiliation, or unequal treatment. When members of our legal community face this reality inside courthouses, it raises serious concerns about equity, accountability, and access to justice for all.

An incident affecting one member of our community affects us collectively. We encourage continued solidarity, open dialogue, and meaningful action to address anti-Black racism within the justice system.
