Remedial Equine Therapy offers Chiropractics/Osteopathy/Massage/Cranial Sacral/Laser Therapy/Acupuncture/Herbals/Homeopathics to our clients. Our horses are athletes as much as we are. When we have physical aches & pains in our bodies, we seek out therapists such as chiropractors, physio therapists and massage therapists. That option is now available for your equine athlete from a practitioner who has the experience and education to look after your horse from head to toe! Shantel Perreal's resume can be found at www.canadianequinetherapyinstitude.com for a full list of her qualifications. Is your horse having problems with:
Picking up leads
Head shaking
Lameness
Behaviour Problems
Bucking
Kicking
Biting
I work closely with all vets, and farriers! Also look at the saddle fit, and your balance.

“Equine Osteopathy is a combination of spinal and extremity joint manipulation, visceral (organ) manipulation and cranio-sacral therapy. The fundamental philosophy of osteopathy is that for the body to be truly healthy and vital, every tissue in the body must have proper mobility, thus affecting flow of blood, lymph and nerve impulses. Osteopathy treats the whole body.”
Osteopaths use a broad range of gentle hands-on techniques including soft tissue stretching, deep tactile pressure, and mobilization or manipulation of joints. We do not use any mallets or hammers. I have spent years Studying the Equine Anatomy and I will always be a student! I am not someone that just took a 4 day course and call myself certified! I also have been a human Therapist for over 15yrs. Rehabilitation and physiotherapy for humans was a big part of my life for many years and still will be on the teaching side of things. I travel all over Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Ont, Yukon

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to share that I’m now offering private online consultations for horse owners looking for a better understanding of their horse’s health, nutrition, movement, and overall well-being.

With 20 years of experience in equine therapy and teaching, I’m bringing that knowledge directly to horse owners through one-on-one video consultations, allowing us to work together no matter where you’re located.

For $100 per session, we’ll take the time to discuss your horse, go over your concerns, and work toward a better understanding of what may be affecting their comfort, movement, and performance.

To get started, simply send me:

* A short video of your horse moving without a rider.
* A short video of your horse moving with a rider, if applicable.
* Some background information about your horse, including their history, current concerns, workload, and nutrition.

From there, we’ll meet over a video call and talk everything through together. My goal is to help you better understand your horse, recognize areas that may need attention, and make more informed decisions about their care.

You don’t have to wait until something becomes a bigger problem to start asking questions. Sometimes, a fresh set of eyes and a better understanding of the whole horse can make all the difference.

No matter where you live, we can work together to help you better understand your horse and support their long term health and well being.

If you’re interested in booking a consultation or have questions about how it works, send me a message. I’d love to help!

WHY CAN’T MY HORSE BUILD A TOPLINE?

If your horse has a hollow back, weak hindquarters, or seems to build muscle in some areas while losing it in others, the answer may not be “more protein” or another topline supplement.

A topline is not one muscle.

It is the visible result of how the neck, shoulders, back, abdomen, pelvis, and hindquarters work together. When the body is not using those areas correctly, the horse may compensate—sometimes developing certain muscles while other areas become weak or underdeveloped.

So before you add another scoop to the feed bucket, ask:

🔎 Is your horse actually using its hindquarters?
🔎 Is the abdominal wall engaging?
🔎 Is the horse carrying itself—or pulling itself along with the front end?
🔎 Are the shoulders developing evenly?
🔎 Is there asymmetry or muscle loss on one side?
🔎 Are the feet comfortable and allowing the horse to load evenly?
🔎 Does the saddle still fit as the horse's body changes?
🔎 Could pain, an old injury, or compensation be affecting movement?
🔎 Is the horse calm enough for the nervous system to actually learn a new movement pattern?

And nutrition absolutely matters.

Muscle needs adequate energy, quality protein and amino acids, vitamins and minerals, along with appropriate movement and recovery. But feeding provides the raw materials—movement provides the stimulus, and recovery gives the body time to adapt.

There is another important distinction:

A horse that never developed a strong topline is different from a horse that had muscle and is now losing it.

Rapid or obvious muscle loss, weakness, trembling, exercise intolerance, neurological changes, unexplained weight loss, or significant asymmetry should not simply be met with harder training. Those are reasons to involve your veterinarian.

The goal isn't to force a pretty outline.

The goal is to help the whole horse function better.

Because a topline isn't something you simply put on a horse.

It is something the horse develops when the body is capable of working correctly. 🐎

📖 WHY CAN'T MY HORSE BUILD A TOPLINE?
Stop chasing the muscle. Start asking why.

Inside the ebook, we explore the relationship between biomechanics, muscle development, nutrition, feet, groundwork, recovery, the nervous system, saddle fit, rider balance, pain, compensation, and veterinary red flags.

If you've been asking, “Why won't my horse build a topline?”—

maybe it's time to ask a better question:

👉 “What is stopping THIS horse from developing one?”

📚 Read the full ebook and learn how to start looking at the whole horse—not just the shape of its back.

Herbs Made Simple for Horse Owners 10/19/2026

HOW MUCH MONEY HAVE YOU SPENT ON SUPPLEMENTS FOR YOUR HORSE?

Be honest. Have you ever bought something because someone told you it worked wonders for their horse?

Maybe it was for stiffness, digestion, allergies, nervousness, or just because your horse wasn’t quite himself.

So, you handed over your hard-earned money, sometimes HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS, crossed your fingers, and hoped for the best.

And when it didn’t seem to help? Well, there was always another product promising something even better!

Before you know it, your feed room looks like a miniature health food store, and your wallet is considerably lighter.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m a huge believer in the benefits of herbs. But there’s something I wish more horse owners would stop and think about.

Just because a supplement contains herbs doesn’t mean it’s the right product for your horse.

And just because it costs $150, $300, or even $500 doesn’t mean it’s going to work!

I’ve spent over 50 years working with horses, including more than 20 years in the horse health industry. During that time, I’ve seen just how much horse owners want to do the right thing for their animals.

But I’ve also seen how much money gets spent on products without people really understanding what they’re buying.

Every herb has different properties, different uses, and different limitations. Some herbs may be beneficial in certain circumstances, while others may not be appropriate at all.

So how do you know what you’re actually giving your horse?

Imagine walking into a feed store, picking up a supplement, reading the ingredients, and actually UNDERSTANDING what’s in that container instead of relying entirely on the promises printed on the front.

That’s why I created Herbs Made Simple, an herbal education program for horse owners.

Not to sell you another supplement, but to give you the knowledge to make better decisions for your horse.

You don’t need to become a herbalist, and you certainly shouldn’t need a chemistry degree and three cups of coffee just to understand what you’re feeding your horse!

This course is about learning what herbs actually do, when they may be helpful, when they should be avoided, and how they fit into responsible horse care.

Because sometimes the smartest thing you can do for your horse isn’t buying another product.

It’s learning enough to understand what your horse actually needs.

And here’s a little food for thought.

If you’re willing to spend hundreds of dollars on supplements, isn’t it worth investing in understanding what you’re buying?

Herbs Made Simple is now available through the Canadian Equine Therapy Institute.

I’m offering $50 off the course until November 7, 2026.

Herbs, Horses & a Little Common Sense!

What if understanding your horse's health was easier than you thought?

If you're anything like me, you've probably spent a small fortune over the years on your horses. Feed, supplements, vitamins, minerals, and the occasional miracle product that promises to turn your horse into a shiny, muscular superstar overnight! LOL!

And you know what? That's part of being a horse owner. We love these big, beautiful, ridiculously expensive animals, and we want to give them the very best.

But have you ever wondered what happens to all those wonderful things we put into their feed buckets? How does the body actually use them, and what makes one product beneficial for one horse but not necessarily another?

Now that's where things get interesting!

There's a Whole Lot Going On Under That Beautiful Coat!

After more than 20 years working as an equine therapist, one thing continues to fascinate me: just how incredibly connected everything is inside the horse.

Think about it. Your horse has an enormous digestive system, billions of microorganisms working away in the hindgut, a nervous system constantly sending messages throughout the body, and organs working around the clock to keep everything functioning.

And somehow we're supposed to figure out what's going on when our horses can't exactly walk up and tell us what's bothering them!

Wouldn't that be nice, though?

"Hey Mom, my hindgut microbes are having a bit of a disagreement today, and while you're at it, could you check my mineral balance?"

Now THAT would make horse ownership a whole lot easier! LOL!

Take the hindgut, for example. It's essentially a massive fermentation system where microorganisms break down fibre and produce volatile fatty acids that provide much of your horse's energy. Pretty impressive little workers, aren't they?

But what happens when that delicate microbial environment becomes disrupted? How might that affect digestion, energy, and the nutrients available to support the rest of the body?

And that's just ONE part of the horse!

Now, Let's Talk About Herbs!

Oh, this is where I could talk for hours!

Herbal medicine has fascinated me for years, particularly when you begin looking beyond what an herb is traditionally used for and start understanding its properties, how it's prepared, and how the body processes its compounds.

There's a whole world of information sitting right under our noses, sometimes growing in our own backyards!

And then there's Traditional Chinese Medicine, which describes herbs using concepts such as warming, cooling, drying, and moistening.

Now, before you imagine wrapping your horse in a blanket and serving him a nice warm cup of herbal tea, that's not quite what we're talking about! LOL!

These traditional descriptions offer another perspective on herbal preparations, although they aren't the same as scientifically established effects.

And here's something important: just because something is natural doesn't automatically make it safe. Some plants are toxic, and others can interact with medications. That's why learning about herbs means understanding the precautions as well as their potential benefits.

What About the Liver?

Now there's an organ that certainly doesn't get enough appreciation!

Your horse's liver is busy processing nutrients, producing important proteins, making bile, and metabolizing many substances entering the body.

When you start connecting digestion, nutrition, herbs, and liver function, you begin to appreciate just how much teamwork is happening inside your horse.

It's almost like running a business. Everyone has a job to do, and when one department gets into trouble, the others may have to pick up the slack!

And trust me, I've run a business long enough to know exactly how that works! LOL!

So, Why Did I Create Herbs Made Simple for Horse Owners?

With my background in equine therapy, holistic nutrition, and a Master's in Herbal Medicine, I wanted to create something that would make learning about herbal medicine interesting, practical, and understandable for everyday horse owners.

Not something where you need a medical dictionary beside you just to get through the first lesson!

I wanted to share the knowledge I've gathered over the years and help people make more informed decisions about their horses' health.

Of course, anyone who knows me will probably laugh when I say I intended to keep this course short.

That didn't exactly happen!

Once I start teaching and connecting the dots, I have a hard time stopping. Before I knew it, I'd packed the course with far more information than originally planned!

And I'm pretty excited to share it with you.

HERBS MADE SIMPLE FOR HORSE OWNERS

What if we stopped looking at our horses as a collection of symptoms?

A cough isn’t always just a “lung problem.”
Stiffness isn’t always just a muscle problem.

A nervous horse doesn’t always need a calming herb.

And sometimes, the best solution doesn’t come in a bag at all.

Holistic horse health is about learning to look at the whole horse — digestion, nutrition, movement, pain, the nervous system, environment, lifestyle and history — and then asking the most important question:

Why is this happening?

Herbs can be wonderful tools for supporting your horse, but they work best when we understand why we are using them and where they fit into the bigger picture.

That’s exactly what we explore in our new course:

Herbs Made Simple for Horse Owners

A practical, easy-to-understand introduction to herbal support that helps you become a more informed observer of your horse and make better decisions about when and how herbs may fit into their care.

And to celebrate the launch, we’re offering $50 OFF your first month.
