Make Eye Contact

Before crossing, make eye contact with the driver.

Not a wave. Not an assumption. Actual eye contact.

If you can't see their eyes, they can't see you.

🚌

Know someone who'd be a great school bus driver? 🚌

Maybe they love working with families.
Maybe they want hours that match their life.
Maybe they're just ready for work that means something.

Maybe you should recommend driving for us?
Friends always know best. 💛

School bus yellow wasn't an accident. It was a careful choice, hammered out over seven days by a group of scientists and educators.

At a 1939 conference, experts settled on a specific shade of yellow because the human eye processes it faster than almost any other color — especially in peripheral vision. That extra half‑second reaction time saves lives.

The color also stands out in fog, rain, and at dawn, making a bus visible from 500 feet away even in poor light.

So the next time a child waits at the curb, they're seeing a color chosen specifically to protect them.

A safety measure, painted bright. 🚌🟡

The 10-Foot Zone

If you can touch the bus, you're too close.

The area within 10 feet of a school bus is the most dangerous place to be.
Stay back.
Wait for the signal.

Happy Victoria Day, Haliburton County! 🍁

No school today! Our drivers are enjoying a well-earned long weekend too.
(They are somewhere very comfortable right now and we fully support it.)

See everyone back on the bus Tuesday. Stay safe out there. 💛
