FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT

Sometimes, the most meaningful lessons are learned through the simplest acts of kindness.

A parent and child visiting a Poppy table together. A little hand reaching for a poppy. A donation placed in the box.

These small moments remind us that remembrance is not only about looking back at the past. It is also about teaching the next generation why we remember, whom we honour, and how we can make a difference.

When children see their families supporting our Veterans, they learn that gratitude is more than words. It is something we show through our actions.

At Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88, we are proud to see families and young people taking part in our Poppy Campaign. Their involvement helps keep the spirit of remembrance alive for generations to come.

Because when we teach our children to remember, we also teach them compassion, respect, and the importance of giving.

One small act of kindness today. A lasting legacy for tomorrow.

Remember. Honour. Support.

WHY THE POPPY?

Did you know?

During the First World War, red poppies grew across the devastated battlefields of Flanders. Inspired by these flowers and John McCrae’s poem In Flanders Fields, the poppy became a lasting symbol of sacrifice, remembrance, and hope.

Today, wearing a poppy honours the brave Canadians who served and sacrificed for our freedom. It also reminds us of the importance of peace and the responsibility to remember.

Have you picked up your poppy yet?

Share a photo of your poppy in the comments and help spread the message of remembrance throughout our community!

Every contribution helps support veterans and their families.

THE HISTORY & SIGNIFICANCE OF THE POPPY

Remember. Honour. Support.

Have you ever wondered why we wear a red poppy?

The poppy became a symbol of remembrance inspired by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae’s poem In Flanders Fields, written in May 1915 during the First World War.

In 1921, Madame Anna Guérin helped bring the idea of fabric poppies to Canada to raise funds for those affected by the war. On July 6, 1921, the Great War Veterans’ Association, the predecessor to The Royal Canadian Legion, adopted the poppy as Canada’s Flower of Remembrance.

Today, the Poppy remains a powerful symbol of remembrance for those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.

When you wear a poppy and donate to the Poppy Fund, you help keep their memory alive and support Veterans and their families.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88 proudly serves the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

Thank you for remembering, honouring, and supporting our Veterans.

Lest We Forget.
