I am committed to ongoing destination research and "boots on the ground" audits, which I document in The Advisor’s Journal on my website. Dont make a mistake on safari that you'll never live down.
I read the rule that said "no white" and figured that the teeny pattern on my top was enough to make my white shirt, not white.
My friends were quite sure that my justification was not good enough. LOL. And now looking back, I get their point!
At least I didnt wear a fire-engine-red shirt like the guy we saw halfway across the savanah standing out against the sands, grass and trees like a sore thumb (literally).
Thankfully when I plan safaris for my clients I can answer all their clothing related questions snd save them from repeating my silly mistakes.

The advice I give you about your trip to unique and luxurious parts of Mexico, on private customized safaris in Africa and luxury expedition cruises - comes with a decade of experience and relationships.
You benefit from the decade of ups and downs, the mistakes Ive made and fixed, the resort audits, ships tours and adventures Ive tested with you in mind, and the systems Im constantly investing in and revamping.
With your help, and in a blink of an eye Im sure, soon Ill be posting about my 20 year anniversary.
Thanks for being here!
(Picture snapped after a celebratory meal with my family at Lupita Cantina - fitting since Mexico is the country Ive booked the most clients to, visited the most myself and LOVE!)
You just found the account for travel content that's not sponsored or marketing fluff.
I'm Karen, a luxury travel advisor based in Vancouver, BC and I post a couple times a week. Its not all finely curated beautiful pictures and videos.
I post about what you need to know in order to connect with the next vacation that is exactly right for you. Not the one with the best marketing images, or sponsorships.
If you want that then Im glad you found me and I hope you'll stick around!
Staying at SHA Mexico and completing one of their scientific health reset programs means nourishing yourself the SHA way.
Here's a little secret, they won't offer you coffee but if you specifically ask, you can order one a day without anyone looking at you sideways. I will admit to feeling a wee bit rebellious anyway.
As the summer season is winding down around us and we're thinking about going back to routines and losing the sun (at least here where I am in Vancouver, BC), it seems like the perfect time to refocus on health and prepare for the next few seasons.
Ask me about what a health reset at SHA Mexico looks like, because I audited the experience in January so I have all the answers for you.
Would you take your coffee with a side of rebellion like I did?
This might feel a bit misplaced to be talking about spending time in nature being healthy on social media - which is quite unnatural and tends toward being quite unhealthy. Believe me I see the contradiction.
But being ever the pragmatist (and Vancouver based Independent Luxury Travel Advisor) I am going to use this medium to connect with the online community of people who value spending time in nature and look for new places to escape in to and learn about and from.
I never feel more connected to the wild as I do when I'm on safari in Africa. Time, sound and my senses all shift. My brain is quiet and my ability to focus is something I dont experience elsewhere. I've heard from fellow adventurers that my experience in that regard is not unique.
If you're reading this then my guess is you get what I'm saying and you're my people! I hope you'll come along with me in this crazy social media world.
And what I'm really hoping is that the perfect group of 5 adventurous nature and wildlife lovers find me and want to experience the wild in a way that simply cannot be found anywhere else.
5 spots available for a custom designed, luxury safari in April 2027. DM and we can start the conversation.
What's the difference between a travel agent and a travel advisor ... really ... nothing.
It's all about perception.
In the industry Ive been told that when someone is presented a travel agent, travelers think of them as someone who is told what you want to book, clicks some buttons and hands over a plane ticket or a hotel reservation.
A travel advisor (or one of the other more creative names Ive seen licensed agents give themselves) is perceived as someone who personally consults with clients, gets to know you and your likes and dislikes and then goes out and does the research and presents you with a more customized itinerary. Something the advisor suggests will fit you and your trip dreams.
I want to be perceived as the second - because thats what I do! But when it comes right down to it, my license still says travel agent.
Let me know in the comments if you care what title I choose for myself. What title makes most sense to you?
If you like my style of saying whats true rather than just followinf the industry trends, I hope you'll follow along we can stay connected.
