Did You Know Your Ferrule Can Change More Than Just the Look of Your Cue?
When replacing a pool cue ferrule, it's not just about replacing a damaged one. The material you choose can affect both the appearance and the way the shaft feels and responds.
• Appearance matters — Ferrule materials come in different colours, shades, finishes, and levels of translucency, allowing you to customize the look of your shaft.
• Hit characteristics — Different materials can produce subtle differences in feedback, firmness, and the overall feel of the hit.
• Sound can change — Ferrule material can influence the sound your cue makes when striking the cue ball, from a softer "thud" to a sharper "click."
• Weight matters — Even small differences in ferrule weight can slightly affect the balance and overall feel of a shaft. Lower front end mass produces less cue ball deflection.
• Stiffness plays a role — Some materials are harder and more rigid, while others have a little more give, which can change how the shaft responds. (eg Ferrules for breaking or jumping)
• Durability varies — Different ferrule materials have different levels of resistance to chalk, cracking, chipping, and wear.
• Maintenance can differ — Some materials polish beautifully and stay bright, while others may require to be properly sealed to maintain their appearance.
• It’s not one-size-fits-all — The "best" ferrule material depends on the cue, shaft construction, and most importantly, the player's preferred feel.
A ferrule may be a small part of a pool cue, but it can make a noticeable difference in both how your cue looks and how it feels in your hands.
Rolleston Cue Services can help you choose a ferrule material that fits your cue and your playing style.
Below are the types of ferrule material I stock.
It's been a while since I posted a song, so here's another one.
