Did you know that AWE has 107 works by Franklin Carmichael in our collections? Carmichael was the youngest original member of the Group of Seven, and had a fondness La Cloche Mountains of Ontario. He loved them so much that it led him to build a log cabin on Grace Lake in 1934–35*. ⛰️🌊

UPCOMING WORKSHOP - Drawing with Charcoal 📝🌟
with Talysha Bujold-Abu

This is a great class for beginner and intermediate artists and illustrators offering a variety of warmup techniques and best practices for drawing with charcoal - the workshop will conclude with an opportunity for a prolonged still life and/or charcoal study of the Third-Floor Galleries or Detroit Skyline 🌇🖌️

Schedule:
🖌️7pm – 7:15pm : Curatorial introduction to Ink, Charcoal & Jet by curator Talysha Bujold-Abu.
🖌️7:15pm – 7:30pm : Workshop introduction, materials overview, and warmup activities
🖌️7:30pm – 7:45pm : Mini Break
🖌️7:45pm – 8:30pm : Prolonged artist-led drawing

What should I bring?
🗒️A sketchbook or drawing pad. Note: AWE will provide basic materials including charcoal, charcoal pencils, varied eraser types, and the like.

Get messy and creative while experimenting with colours, brushes, and different painting techniques.

Build, shape, twist, and sculpt imaginative creations using clay and found objects.

🏗️ Tuesday, August 25: Cardboard City🏗️
Turn everyday cardboard into an amazing city filled with buildings, roads, and ideas. Learn how to use a Chompsaw and tools!

🍂 Wednesday, August 26: Nature Camp 🍂
Discover art inspired by nature through outdoor exploration and natural materials.
