🧡 This Halloween, nature has dressed to impress — and the reef is looking absolutely spook-tacular!

If there were a Halloween costume competition beneath the ocean, the marine life of the Great Astrolabe Reef would certainly steal the show!

Nature has an extraordinary imagination. From the striking patterns and vibrant colours of butterflyfish and angelfish to the fascinating characters of wrasses and anemonefish, every creature seems to have its own unique costume. Even the sea fans and soft corals add to the magical underwater scenery, swaying gently with the ocean currents.

But unlike any Halloween celebration on land, these costumes are not created for just one night. They are part of the remarkable ways marine life has evolved to survive, adapt and thrive in its underwater home.

The Great Astrolabe Reef reminds us that the ocean is full of magic, mystery and surprises. Sometimes, all it takes is a closer look to discover a world more incredible than anything we could imagine.

Life is full of beautiful adventures, and sometimes one chapter closes to make room for another.

After three wonderful years at Oneta, Anne, Rusi and their little boy, Morgan, will soon be leaving Fiji to return to Europe and be closer to their families. After almost 15 years of travelling and working around the world, a new adventure awaits them, and we wish them all the happiness in this next chapter.

But we know this isn’t goodbye forever! ❤️ Morgan will certainly be back to Oneta for his very first dive! 🤿 His umbilical cord is still on the Great Astrolabe Reef, and the connection he has already formed with this land, its people and its traditions can never be broken.

Morgan was welcomed to the island wrapped in a traditional tapa cloth, greeted by the sound of the conch shell horn and surrounded by countless hugs and so much love. How lucky he has been to spend his very first year of life in such an extraordinary environment, surrounded by Fiji’s natural beauty, the ocean and the warmth of our island community. 🌴 These roots will always be part of his story.

Three years of growth and achievement 🌊

During Anne and Rusi’s time here, our Dive Centre achieved PADI Five Star Dive Resort status, strengthened its safety standards, earned wonderful five-star guest feedback and trained three local Divemasters who remain part of our team today. We are incredibly proud of what they have helped build.

And a new chapter begins! 🐠

We are excited to soon introduce Mo, our new Dive Instructor and Manager! Mo is amazing and has many exciting projects ahead, from continuing staff training and developing our local team to keeping our conservation initiatives thriving and ensuring every guest enjoys an extraordinary Oneta experience.

Anne, Rusi and Morgan, thank you for being part of our family and leaving such a special mark on this island.

🏐 Oneta vs Kokomo — what a game! 🔥

Last week, we welcomed our friends from Kokomo Resort to Oneta for an epic volleyball showdown, and let's just say… nobody was giving away a single point without a fight!

Powerful serves, thunderous spikes, incredible saves, desperate dives, and rallies that seemed to go on forever. The score was tight, the adrenaline was high, and every point brought a new wave of cheers, laughter, and suspense. You could feel the competitive spirit on every side of the net!

But beyond the smashes and spectacular digs, it was all about what makes these moments so special: good sportsmanship, genuine connection, and a whole lot of fun together.

Volleyball holds a special place in Fiji. From village courts and school grounds to beaches and resort lawns, it's a sport that brings people together. It's about teamwork, pride, friendly rivalry, and that unmistakable Fijian spirit of community — where everyone gets involved, everyone cheers, and the laughter continues long after the final whistle.

A huge vinaka to the Kokomo team for coming over and bringing their energy, skills, and fantastic spirit to our little corner of paradise!

The score might be forgotten, but the memories won't be. And we're already looking forward to the rematch!

Manta season is still in full swing. 🌊

And they are right here — just beneath the surface.

Almost every day, our reef mantas arrive at the cleaning station, gliding slow, steady laps over the coral while cleaner wrasse go to work around their bodies and gills.

From the surface, snorkellers can watch these gentle giants pass just below them — great wings stretching through the blue, completely at ease, sometimes close enough to see the delicate patterns on their bellies.

There is something humbling about the scale of it: an animal several metres across, moving silently through the water.

No cage. No boat ride. No deep dive.

Just you, the ocean, and a manta passing quietly beneath the surface.

A sight that stays with you long after the water closes over it. 🖤

Some of the most beautiful memories are made with the simplest things — a smile, a game, a shared laugh, and the joy of being together.

During a visit to Buliya Village, on our neighbouring island, our guests were welcomed into a world filled with bright little faces, endless laughter and the wonderful energy of village children. Before long, everyone was playing together — running, laughing, chasing, and simply enjoying the moment. 💛

There is something truly special about growing up in a Fijian village by the ocean. Life is deeply connected to the sea, the land, family and community. Children grow up surrounded by traditions passed down through generations, learning the importance of sharing, respect, hospitality and looking after one another.

And perhaps most beautifully, childhood still has room for the things that matter most: play, imagination, friendship and laughter. 🌊🌴

For our guests, it was a chance to experience Fiji beyond its breathtaking landscapes — through the warmth of its people and the joyful spirit of its children.

For us, it was another reminder that the heart of Fiji is found in its people. ❤️
