Find a remote beach and step ashore.

For a moment, the sand is yours. Your footprints are the only sign that you were there, tracing the path of a small adventure that belongs entirely to this moment in time.

And then the ocean moves.

The tide comes in, the waves roll softly across the shore, and little by little, your footprints disappear.

Not lost. Just returned to the sea.

We wave until the boat disappears, hoping they know just how much they have come to mean to us.

Perhaps this is what travelling is really about — not just the places we visit, but the people we meet along the way. The friendships that stay with us, the memories we carry home, and the little footprints we leave in each other’s hearts.

From above, it’s all shades of paradise — lush green island, untouched shores, and impossibly clear blue water revealing the reef below.

And then you slip beneath the surface…

There they are.

Manta rays, gliding effortlessly through the blue like shadows in slow motion, while tiny cleaner fish gather around them. Gentle giants moving with a quiet kind of grace that makes you forget everything else for a moment.

Lately, they’ve been stealing the show.
Every day.

One little island, two completely different worlds — and somehow, both feel just as magical. 🌊✨

Look up at Oneta and you’ll notice two beautiful details that connect our buildings to Fiji’s architectural traditions: our traditional thatched roofs and the balabala. 🌴

The thatching is made using soga — pandanus leaves traditionally used in Fiji for roofing. Natural, breathable and well suited to the tropical climate, thatching provides shade and protection from the sun and rain.

And then there’s the balabala. 🌿

Balabala is the Fijian tree fern, and traditionally its strong stems were used around the ridge of a bure. Positioned on either side of the roof ridge, they helped strengthen this vulnerable part of the roof while creating the distinctive shape that has become such a recognisable feature of traditional Fijian architecture.

We love these details because they are beautiful for a reason. They come from a way of building that used what was available in the land, worked with Fiji’s climate, and turned practical knowledge into architecture with its own unmistakable character.

And while wandering through the garden, you might meet one of our own Oneta legends: Jonani, our head gardener, who somehow keeps our little jungle under control! 🌿😄

At Oneta, the thatched roofs and balabala rise above the palms as a quiet reminder of our roots — while Jonani makes sure those palms don’t take over completely.

This is our kind of understated luxury — the warmth of Fiji hospitality, the beauty of simple things, and the genuine care we call loloma.

🌿 From our farm to our table — and everything in between! 🥬🍍

Take a walk around the property and you’ll find lettuce growing both in the garden beds and, as part of one of our little experiments, in our new hydroponic system. 🥬💧

Our hydroponic lettuce project is something we’re excited to learn more about. By growing lettuce in water rather than soil, hydroponics can use significantly less water than traditional growing methods, while allowing us to grow fresh greens in a small space. For us, it’s an opportunity to explore a more resource-conscious way of growing food here in our tropical environment. 🌱💦

It’s still a work in progress, but watching those little heads of lettuce grow has been pretty exciting!

And the farm doesn’t stop there. Frank, our farmer, is kept busy tending to tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, basil, mint and other organic vegetables, while the rest of the property is full of tropical surprises. Passionfruit vines twist and climb, pineapples pop up around the gardens, and papayas and bananas soak up the island sunshine. 🌴☀️🍌

We love the fact that our food doesn’t have to travel far before it reaches the kitchen. Sometimes it’s just a short walk from where it was growing that morning.

For us, farm to table is about more than food. It’s about getting our hands in the soil, trying new things, making the most of what grows naturally here, and finding thoughtful ways to care for the land and resources around us.

And if you see Frank out in the garden, give him a wave — he’s probably already thinking about what to plant next. 👨‍🌾🌿

Some of the best adventures in Kadavu don't begin in the ocean.

Follow our local guides along a winding jungle path, where towering trees, the sounds of endemic birds and the scent of the rainforest surround you. Hidden away in the lush green is one of Kadavu's beautiful waterfalls—a place that feels wonderfully untouched.

A refreshing swim in the cool freshwater pool beneath the falls is the perfect reward after the walk. For a little while, it's easy to forget the outside world and imagine you're living the Crusoe life, surrounded only by nature.

The day doesn't end there. Back at the beach, a relaxed lunch awaits before slipping into the lagoon once more for a snorkel with the graceful manta rays—a truly unforgettable way to spend an afternoon in Kadavu.

Then it's back to the comfort of the resort, with salty skin, muddy feet, and another story to tell.
