Anxiety can often be spoken about as something to get rid of or push away. But for many of us, it can be more layered than that.
It can be connected to past experiences, present pressures, future worries, our relationships, and the way our nervous system has learned to stay alert.
It can also show up in different forms — not just worry, but fear, anger, overwhelm, overthinking, or self-doubt.
Rather than trying to immediately change it, there can be something powerful in simply getting curious about it.
And in that space, a little more compassion can begin to emerge. Easier said than done I know, but with practice we can strengthen our compassionate muscle, helping to soothe our anxiety and hear what it really needs us to know.

The week is ending.
The to-do list may still be there.
The pressure to do more may never fully disappear.
But for a moment, consider this:
What would change if you trusted that you have done enough this week?
An invitation to sit with this question before rushing to answer it.

Most of us don't use these phrases with the intention of causing harm.
Often, they come from a desire to help, reassure, or make things feel better.
The difficulty is that anxiety rarely responds well to being dismissed, minimised, or reasoned away.
When we're anxious, we may already be questioning ourselves:
"Am I overreacting?"
"Why can't I stop thinking about this?"
"Why can't I just let this go?"
Hearing phrases like "stop worrying" or "you're making a big deal out of nothing" can sometimes add another layer of shame to an already difficult experience.
What often helps more is curiosity.
Curiosity creates understanding.
Understanding creates connection.
And connection can help us feel safer than advice ever can.
Whether we're speaking to someone we care about or speaking to ourselves, small shifts in language can make a meaningful difference. 💛
🎈 Save this post as a reminder that understanding often soothes more than reassurance.
Anxiety doesn’t always say, “I’m anxious.”
Sometimes it sounds like:
“I’m overwhelmed.”
“I can’t switch my mind off.”
“I feel on edge.”
Many of us live with anxiety without recognising it for what it is. Instead, we experience racing thoughts, difficulty relaxing, irritability, overthinking, tension, or a constant sense that we have done something wrong.
Often, anxiety is about our nervous system working hard to anticipate, prepare, and protect.
The challenge is that when we’re constantly trying to stay one step ahead, we can lose touch with what we’re actually feeling and needing.
Recognition isn’t about labelling ourselves - it’s about making space to understand ourselves better.
Sometimes the first step isn’t asking,
“How do I stop feeling this way?”
It’s asking,
“What is this feeling trying to tell me?”
Save this post as a reminder that anxiety doesn’t look the way we expect it to. 💛
With many blessings,

🌿🌿🌿 Welcoming new ONLINE clients 🌿🌿🌿
Hello 👋
I am currently welcoming new online clients for psychotherapy and counselling.
Online therapy can gently support that first step and can be a quiet, private space where you can turn your attention towards yourself.
For many people, being at home brings a sense of ease. Sitting in your own familiar environment can help you settle and allow things to unfold at your own pace.
Some benefits of online therapy include:
✔️ Greater flexibility around your schedule
✔️ Access to support wherever you are
✔️ The comfort and familiarity of your own space
✔️ No commute or travel time
✔️ The same level of care, presence and confidentiality as in-person sessions
Whether you are experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, self-doubt, or feeling stuck, therapy creates space to look beneath the surface of symptoms and towards the deeper emotional currents underneath. Together, we can explore how past relationships, early environments and protective adaptations may still be influencing your present, and begin to cultivate greater self-understanding and confidence.
If you have been considering reaching out, or would like to know more about how online sessions work, you can use the link below 👇 to get in touch.

Sometimes we come to therapy wanting to get advice.
But then I would just be another person telling what to do.
Instead, I:
Listen deeply.
Hold space for what’s really going on.
Explore patterns and help process emotions.
Guide you to get to know and trust your own inner wisdom.
From here, choices can be make that feel aligned with who we are.
Therapy is not a quick fix. It takes time. And patience. And trust. 🧡
If you are curious to know more, why not get in touch via the link in my bio.
With many blessings,
Elaine

Hello, I’m Elaine and I wanted to introduce - or reintroduce myself to those of you who might be curious to know more about psychotherapy.
I work as an integrative psychotherapist, offering in-person therapy sessions in Central London, and I also work online across the UK and Ireland.
We come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Maybe we are feeling overwhelmed and that something is not quite right. We might have been managing something that feels heavy for quite some time and might be experiencing anxiety, low mood, self-confidence challenges, feeling stuck, grief, loss and/or relationship challenges.
We might have a wish to communicate better and have stronger boundaries, or we might want to have greater understanding of our patterns and our emotional selves. We might feel that our past plays a role in our day to day thoughts, feelings and relationships and may have a desire to explore this further.
Or perhaps it’s hard to put into words what’s going on, but we have a sense that things feel off. We might be feeling frightened about something that’s having an impact on us and wish to understand ourselves better and to trust ourselves more.
Therapy can be a courageous step in our mental-wellness journey, and can be a powerful act of self-care. I work in an integrative way, blending different therapy approaches, so that the work is flexible, personal and in response to what is currently being experienced.
