Keep it simple π
My goal for the end of the year is to be consistent with my training (and build up a bit more muscle πͺ)
I have some bigger goals coming already in 2027 that I'm super excited about so I've had to shift my training schedule about quite a bit.
So to achieve my goal of consistency, I'm keeping my gym based workout as simple as possible!!
4 strength days per week.
1 upper body
1 lower body
1 push focussed
1 pull focussed
..Then a couple of cycles, swims, runs and walks in there on top π
But I'm chasing progress so that means for me, simplify my training, be consistent and let the good stuff happen π
I mean, all of our weightlifters are progressing with their programmes so I better get my butt in gear to keep up π

"I feel stronger and more able πͺ"
"My confidence in my strength is growing β"
Congratulations to Lynne who is our Block 5 Weightlifting Champ πͺπ
Lynne has been coming to our weightlifting club for over a year now and it's been amazing to see how much her confidence has grown in that time!! π
In all honesty, she's had her hat in the ring for the coveted t shirt this whole year so it's well deserved π
This block though she smashed it!!!
Joining the 1% club (women who can bench press 2x20kg dumbbells for 6 reps ranks you in the top 1% of the general population π) was a key highlight for me but not just that, her work ethic and determination every week is inspiring π
You deserve this champ! π
Congratulations π

Stop doing this for Deadlifts!! ββ
Two common issues I see in the gym all the time, particularly with beginners, is the set up for using a barbell for deadlifts & the correct posture to use throughout the lift.
1. Hands too wide & feet too narrow (or in some cases the opposite).
Whilst there is benefit in doing both of these variations in terms of engaging different muscles or for specific sports (e.g. sumo deadlift on powerlifting etc) - the focus on being purposeful with your movement. So! For conventional Deadlifts a strong starting position looks like:
Feet hip width to create a strong stable base with your grip lining up outside your knees. This allows you to create a strong leg drive without forcing your knees in (like if your arms are too narrow). Leg drive is the key for a strong deadlift!
2. Rounding of the back
Firstly, yuck π Secondly, it's all about engaging your core and lats here. To get this position correct and maintain a strong, flat, neutral back you want to create tension on the bar and shift your weight slightly through your heels.
A nice queue I use in the gym is to pull the slack out of the bar so you hear a wee clunk noise of the barbell engaging against the plates. This creates tension, then it's all about the pull πͺ
No go practice your Deadlifts ππ
