Today at the Simon Week Conference, our CEO, Niall Garvey, took part in a Fireside Chat, sharing his perspective on preventing and addressing homelessness in Ireland alongside colleagues from across the Simon Community.
This year’s theme, “Homeless & Alone. One Big Push.”, draws attention to the particular challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness on their own, and the urgent need for greater action and support.
Simon Week provides an important opportunity to listen, learn and come together with a shared commitment to ending homelessness.

Single adults are the largest group experiencing homelessness in Ireland, accounting for well over three in five adults in emergency accommodation.
But behind every statistic is a person, with relationships, talents, a career, a story and a life beyond homelessness.
People like Lily.
Visit simon.ie/simonweek to learn more and find out how you can make a difference.
The latest figures show that 17,527 people were living in emergency accommodation across Ireland in July 2026.
Of the 11,868 adults, 7,244 were single adults facing homelessness alone.
Behind every number is a person without a place to call home. Single adults make up the majority of adults in emergency accommodation, yet too many remain without the appropriate housing and supports they need.
This Simon Week, we’re joining Simon Communities across Ireland in calling for urgent action to ensure that no one has to face homelessness alone.

September is Recovery Month, a time to raise awareness that recovery is possible and to remember those we have lost through addiction, substance use and mental health challenges.
Here at Mid West Simon Community, our Limerick services took part in a Recovery Walk, standing together in hope and solidarity. Our Clare services also took time to reflect and remember those whose lives have been lost.
Together, we honour their memory, support those on their recovery journey and recognise the importance of hope, connection and support in recovery.
Adults facing homelessness alone have been excluded. Let’s fix it.

Today, 31st August, we mark International Overdose Awareness Day, with this year’s theme: “25 Years. Still Needed.”

Mid West Simon Community is asking for your support to help purchase a much-needed electric pallet truck for our Foodbank warehouse. This essential equipment will support our dedicated volunteers and staff as they receive, sort, organise, and pack emergency food parcels for people experiencing food poverty across Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary.
In 2025, we distributed approximately 45,000 emergency food parcels to people in need. As demand for our service continues to grow, we need your help to improve the efficiency and safety of our warehouse operations.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help us reach our goal and ensure we can continue providing vital food support to those who need it most. Thank you for your support.

Working together to save lives 💛
The Mid West Simon Community and the Ana Liffey Drug Project joined forces through the HSE Circle Programme to support participants with vital knowledge and skills. This initiative focuses on overdose prevention, how to respond in an emergency, and the safe use of naloxone a life-saving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. Congratulations to all the participants who graduated.
Collaboration like this strengthens our communities, empowers individuals, and ensures more people have the tools to act when it matters most.
