๐๐ง THE ASTRASAPIENS AT KHUHUKHUNE VILLAGE! ๐ญ๐
โWhen young people are not mentally well and are affected by substance abuse, the future of our world is at risk. Young people play a vital role in shaping today's society and tomorrow's world.โ
Yesterday, The AstraSapiens carried out a mental health and substance abuse awareness session with young people at Khukhune Village. ๐
The session was delivered The AstraSapiensโ way โ combining awareness and learning with entertainment, games, and role plays to create an engaging space where young people could learn, participate, and reflect on issues affecting their lives.
๐ง Mental health matters. Young people need safe spaces to express themselves, seek support, and understand their emotional well-being.
๐ซ Substance abuse prevention matters. Raising awareness helps young people understand the risks associated with substance use and make informed decisions about their lives.
๐ญ Learning can be fun, too! Through games, entertainment, and role plays, we made important conversations more engaging and relatable.
Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are active contributors to today's society. Investing in their mental health, well-being, and ability to make healthy choices is investing in a stronger, safer, and more sustainable future for everyone.
The AstraSapiens remains committed to empowering adolescents through participation, awareness, and sustainable opportunities through arts and other means. ๐
One conversation. One community. One empowered young person at a time! ๐

๐๐ INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD | 11 OCTOBER ๐๐
๐โจ Theme: โThe girl child: a vision for the future.โ
Today, The AstraSapiens joins the world in celebrating every girl child and recognizing her potential to shape a brighter, more inclusive and sustainable future. ๐ธ๐ง๐ฝ
Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, lead, speak up and thrive in a safe and supportive environment. Yet, many girls continue to face challenges such as gender-based violence, discrimination, child marriage, teenage pregnancy and limited access to education and opportunities.
๐ As The AstraSapiens, we believe that investing in girls today means building stronger communities tomorrow. Let us protect their rights, amplify their voices, nurture their talents and empower them to become the leaders, innovators and change-makers of the future.
โจ Let her learn. Let her lead. Let her dream.
๐ Every girl matters. Every voice counts. Every dream deserves a chance.
Together, let us create a world where every girl can reach her full potential without fear, discrimination or limitations.

๐ A DAY OF REAL VOICES, HEALING, AND REAL CHANGE! ๐
Yesterday marked a truly powerful and meaningful day for The AstraSapiens Association, as we collaborated with Mind of Steel Organization Lesotho and Endless Empowerment to create a safe and empowering platform for young people to honour the theme:
โLived Experiences Heard, Real Voices, Real Change.โ
It was more than a commemoration; it was a day of courage, connection, healing, and hope. Young people opened up about their lived experiences, shared their journeys with one another, and reminded us of the power of being heard, understood, and supported. Through listening to one another, many found comfort, strength, and healing in the realisation that they are not alone in their struggles.
We also engaged in healing techniques and exercises, creating space for reflection, emotional release, and personal wellbeing. It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes, healing begins when someone feels safe enough to speak and someone else is willing to listen. ๐
Our panel discussion explored four important questions:
1๏ธโฃ Why is it important that people with lived experience are heard in mental health decisions?
2๏ธโฃ What are the biggest barriers to seeking mental health support in our communities?
3๏ธโฃ How can families, workplaces, schools, and faith communities respond better to mental health challenges?
4๏ธโฃ What is one practical change that would turn โreal voicesโ into โreal changeโ?
One powerful message emerged: young people are not only seeking to be heard; they are ready to advocate for stronger mental health policies, responsive systems, and meaningful action. Mental health must not remain an overlooked issue until it reaches a crisis. It deserves attention, investment, compassion, and collective responsibility.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Miss Lesotho , Reitumetse Makara , for joining us and contributing to this important cause as a mental health advocate. Your presence added value to this shared mission.
Special appreciation also goes to Leaders of Change Initiatives on Community Development , our fellow change-makers and mental health advocates, the courageous young people who shared their lived experiences, our panelists, relevant stakeholders, fellow Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and everyone who attended and contributed to making this day meaningful.
To everyone who shared their story: thank you for your courage. Your experiences matter, your voices deserve to be heard, and your stories can help shape a more compassionate and responsive society.
This gathering reaffirmed our belief that people with lived experience must not simply be invited to speak; their voices must influence the decisions, policies, and systems that affect their lives.
As we move forward under the Youth Power Hub Programme, co-funded by the European Union in Lesotho and capacitated and monitored by UNICEF Lesotho and Iom Lesotho , we remain committed to youth participation, mental health awareness, and meaningful change.
๐ Let us meet again in spaces like theseโspaces where we listen without judgement, support without discrimination, heal together, and turn our voices into action.
Because when lived experiences are heard, real change becomes possible!
