โ€œOn 10 June 1886, the landscape of Rotorua and the lives of its inhabitants changed forever. The eruption of Mount Tarawera blanketed Te Ika a Mฤui in darkness and destroyed the famed Pink and White Terraces. It also buried the village of Te Wairoa, home to Tลซhourangi and the many travellers they hosted. The eruption left a scar on the landscape and on local iwi. This is a scar borne by Peata Larkin (Te Arawa, Tลซhourangi, Ngฤti Whakaue, Ngฤti Tลซwharetoa), who whakapapas to Tลซhourangi. It is one of the many ancestral stories woven through Larkinโ€™s art practice. [โ€ฆ]โ€

Clear My Throat evokes the moment before a speech: the clearing of space, breath, and intention. This gesture, calls forth ancestral presence, allowing them to speak through us.

Engaging scent, sound, and scale, the exhibition reimagines colonial domestic architecture as a living body, bringing Raniโ€™s new works into dialogue with selected works from The Arts House Trust Collection to trace shifting relations between materiality, geography, and time.
