Looking for part-time work in Queenstown this October? We’re hiring! 🧵
Nemo Workroom is looking for a friendly, organised person to join us for Front of House holiday cover from 12 to 23 October 2026, working around 3 to 4 days per week from our Frankton workroom.
This could be a great short-term Queenstown job for someone travelling through the area, a local looking for a little extra work, a retired person keen to pick up a few days, or anyone who enjoys working with people and has a good head for keeping things organised.
You’ll be helping at the front of our busy clothing alterations and repair workroom, so we’re looking for someone who is comfortable with customer service, invoicing and digital POS systems. An interest in sewing, textiles, fashion, clothing repairs or garment construction would be a definite bonus, but isn’t essential.
Our systems are well established and we’ll provide full training before you take over the reins.
Know someone who might be perfect? Please send them this post or tag them below.
Interested? Email us in confidence at [email protected] with a little about yourself and your availability.

Why DO we keep all this? 👀
Boxes and boxes of fabric scraps, offcuts, linings and all sorts of oddly specific little pieces that most people would probably look at and call waste.
But, we see potential.
That scrap of black fabric could become the perfect patch for a jacket. A leftover piece of lining might repair a pocket. A tiny offcut in a peculiar shade of green might sit untouched for months before the exact garment that needs it walks through our door.
And yes, sometimes we keep something for ages before finding its purpose. That’s part of it.
When your job is repairing, remodelling and extending the life of clothing, you learn not to write materials off too quickly.
So our boxes keep growing, our Stitchologists keep rummaging… and perfectly useful fabric gets another chance to be useful.
Because around here, “scrap” doesn’t necessarily mean “waste”. ♻️

Ever wondered what all those brown bags behind our counter are?
No, we don’t have a slight online shopping problem.
They’re yours. 🧵
When you leave a garment with Nemo Workroom, it gets carefully labelled and stored in its own bag while it makes its way through our system and into the hands of our Stitchologists.
Once the work is finished, it’s returned to its bag, ready and waiting for you to collect.
It might not be the most glamorous part of what we do, but when you’re looking after hundreds of people’s favourite jackets, wedding outfits, trousers, ski gear and sentimental pieces, having a good system matters.
So if you’ve ever handed something precious over our counter and wondered where it disappears to…
Now you know.

What if sustainability isn’t about buying something labelled “sustainable”?
What if sometimes it’s just… not buying anything at all?
Wear the jacket another winter. Hem the trousers. Fix the zip. Patch the hole. Remodel the dress. Dig something forgotten out of your wardrobe and make it work again.
That’s what sustainability looks like to us.
Not perfection. Not never buying new. Just treating the textiles we already own as though they have value.
Because they do.
Sustainability is our common thread. And it’s been at the heart of Nemo since the beginning. 🤍🪡♻️

Will we ever value textiles again?
There was a time when clothes weren’t disposable.
When a jacket wasn’t replaced because the zip broke.
When a tear wasn’t the end of a garment’s story.
When every patch, every stitch and every repair became part of its history.
The Japanese practice of "Boro" was born from necessity. Families mended and layered textiles over generations because fabric was simply too valuable to waste. Today, those same pieces are admired as beautiful works of textile art.
It makes us wonder…
Have we as a society forgotten the value of the things we wear?
At Nemo Workroom, we’d love to see us return to a culture where repairing is the first thought, not replacing.
If you’ve got 15 minutes, this RNZ interview with textile collector Pip Steel is well worth a listen. It explores the history of boro and asks us to rethink what makes something valuable.

💛 We’d love to hear your thoughts… Have we become too quick to throw clothes away?
Pip Steel on boro: the high value Japanese textile art born from poverty Boro is the Japanese tradition of mending and patching fabric over generations, born in rural farming and fishing communities where nothing could be wasted. The repairs were always done on the back of the cloth, never meant to be seen, and pieces were sometimes built up across seven or eight layers....

Can you guess what this is? 👀
It might not look like much… but this tough, waterproof fabric plays a big role every ski season.
Every year, we help prepare the NZ Ski crew by repairing and reinforcing their uniforms before winter gets into full swing. Knees, cuffs and high-wear areas all get a second life with heavy-duty patching that’s built to handle long days on the mountain.
It’s one of those jobs that happens quietly behind the scenes… but when the snow arrives, those repairs are already hard at work.
If your own ski gear has seen better days, don’t retire it just yet. Bring it in and we’ll see if we can help get it back on the slopes. 🏔️🧵

Ever wondered what happens after you drop your garment off? 👀
Welcome to the heart of Nemo Workroom.
This is where jackets get new zips. Where favourite jeans get a second chance. Where wedding dresses are altered, ski gear is repaired, and beloved teddy bears are stitched back together.
It might not look glamorous, but this room is responsible for saving thousands of garments from landfill every year.
Every paper bag on those shelves contains a story waiting to be returned to its owner.
And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way. 🧵💛

The best compliments don’t come from us. They come from our couples. 💛
We’re incredibly proud to share that Nemo Workroom has been named the Winner of the 2026 Couples’ Choice Award for Suit & Formalwear Alterations, and was also recognised as Highly Commended for Bridal Gown Alterations.
These awards mean a little more to us because they’re voted for by the people we’ve had the privilege of helping.
Every last-minute hem.
Every perfectly fitted suit.
Every wedding dress adjusted with nervous hands and excited conversations.
It’s all part of someone’s wedding story, and we never take that responsibility lightly.
To every couple who trusted us with one of the biggest days of their lives… thank you.
This award belongs to you just as much as it does to us. 🧵✨
