Balancing motherhood, work, caregiving responsibilities and college isn't easy. For Athena Scharenbroch, it's all part of building a better future for herself and her two young children.

With support from FVTC's Starting Point program, community partners and scholarships from the Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, Athena found the resources she needed to return to school, thrive in the Medical Assistant program and continue toward her goal of becoming a nurse.

"When I found out I got a scholarship, it was just a really thankful moment for me."

November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, traditions and ongoing contributions of Native Nations throughout Wisconsin and across the United States.

Here in Northeast Wisconsin, we are privileged to live, work and learn on lands with deep connections to the Menominee, Oneida, Ho-Chunk, Stockbridge-Munsee and Potawatomi Nations. Their histories, knowledge and stewardship continue to shape our communities today.

When Matt Bishop (pictured second from the left) headed to the National Training Institute (NTI) this past summer, he expected to spend the week learning from some of the nation's top educators.

Instead, he found himself teaching alongside them.

After serving as a visiting scholar and leading courses for electrical industry educators from across the country, Matt was invited to join NTI's Professional Education faculty, a national honor that reflects both his expertise and the quality of instruction happening at FVTC every day.

Congratulations, Matt, on representing FVTC on a national stage! ⚡👏 Read more via the link in comments.

What will it take to keep pace with Wisconsin’s changing workforce needs?

That’s at the heart of a conversation NWTC President Dr. Kristen Raney and FVTC President Dr. Chris Matheny had with Action 2 News about the Wisconsin's Technical Colleges System’s 2027–29 budget request.

For technical colleges, one of the biggest challenges is capacity — having the faculty, equipment, technology and space to prepare enough students for the careers Wisconsin needs most.

As Wisconsin looks ahead to its next state budget, Raney and Matheny share why continued investment in technical colleges matters — for students, employers and Wisconsin’s workforce.
