Nestled in southwest Michigan, we are a small farm committed to natural and ethical practices. We didn’t grow up as farmers, but did grow up in rural areas.

We’re Brian and Kim (and Izzy...shh, don’t tell her she’s a dog!). Our respective parents and grandparents instilled in us a love of the outdoors and gardening. We both lived the corporate life for approximately 25 years, sitting for way too many hours each day and eating the sub-par foods available at grocery stores. As we expanded our garden and added a few chickens to our backyard, we became increasingly more aware that the commercially grown foods we were eating were lacking the vibrancy and nutrition of our home grown produce. We knew there had to be a healthier and more fulfilling way to live. So, in 2024, we launched Lakeview Family Homestead. Like most homesteaders, we strive to never go to a grocery story again. We’re not quite there, but we’re learning every single day. We are excited to share with you what we’re learning and to provide you with access to a few products that we can manage at a slightly bigger scale with just the two of us on our small farm, including lavender and Icelandic wool.

Look at this gorgeous boy, Lion, loaded up and enroute to MI from WI. We’re already imagining how beautiful his lambs will be. Thank you, Grant Westfall, Little Sugar River Farm!

A little change in our fall plans! Finnur (pictured) will be a wonderful daddy someday, but we’ve decided there’s no rush. This year, he gets to keep growing and settling into farm life while Lion, a handsome three-year-old ram joining us in about 10 days, handles breeding duties. We’re excited to welcome Lion soon and look forward to seeing his lambs next spring!

P. S. How cute is Finnur? This little guy's personality is as adorable as his face.

Hands down, the best part of our trip to Wisconsin was meeting Amanda from Woollyhorn Farm and Amanda from Long R***e Farm. These women not only provided most of our starter flock two years ago, but also have been great mentors. We appreciate them both so much!

Ullín is back at his birth home and looks like he’s settling in. We will miss this sweet boy so much, but it makes our hearts happy to know he’s at such a wonderful farm.

Chasing a gorgeous sunrise back home to Michigan with these two cuties in tow. We’re so excited to welcome Finnur to our farm and transport Toot to Mustard Seed Acres!

On the road to Woollyhorn Farm! Ullín says he is excited to see Shepherdess Amanda again and return to his birth home. We have very mixed emotions, but it’s time for new genetics.

So many snuggles after we returned from vacation. I guess they missed us just like we missed them ❤️

Thank you so much, raeraekidman, for taking great care of all our woolly, furry and feathered kids so we could relax and enjoy some long overdue time off. You’re the best!

Our boy, Magnús, moved to a new home today in north central Michigan. Farmer Cara and Farmer Curtis have big plans for him, including some time with two beautiful ewes this fall. He wasn’t quite sure about this change as they were leaving, but there’s no doubt he’ll be happy once he settles in. We’ll miss you, buddy! Last two pics are Magnús with his daughters last night.
