Flu season is underway, and influenza is spreading throughout our communities. Clarendon County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to take precautions to protect themselves, their families, and those around them.
✅ Help prevent the spread of the flu!
• Follow CDC recommendations for flu prevention, including getting your annual flu vaccine.
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
• Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
• Avoid close contact with others who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick to help prevent spreading the virus.
💊 Important Reminder: The flu is caused by a virus, NOT bacteria. Antibiotics do not treat the flu and are ineffective against viruses. If you become sick, consult your healthcare provider about appropriate treatment options.
❤️ Pay Special Attention to Those at Higher Risk!
While the flu can affect anyone, certain individuals are at a higher risk of developing serious complications. Young children, older adults, and individuals with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, or COPD may develop serious complications from the flu.
Remember: Not every case of the flu requires an ambulance or a trip to the emergency room. However, if someone is experiencing life-threatening symptoms, don't delay seeking emergency care.
Call 911 immediately if someone experiences:
• 🚨 Severe difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• 🚨 Persistent chest pain or pressure
• 🚨 Blue or gray lips, face, or fingernails
• 🚨 Severe confusion, unresponsiveness, or difficulty waking up
• 🚨 Seizures
• 🚨 In children, severe breathing difficulties, bluish lips or face, or inability to stay awake
❤️ Let's work together to keep our community healthy this flu season! A few simple precautions can make a big difference in protecting yourself and others.
