HousingPlus
Offering permanent housing with supportive services for women and families experiencing homeless.
For New York's women who are experiencing homelessness, there's almost nowhere to turn for help. HousingPlus provides these under-served women with keys to build lives of their own: We provide housing so they can create real homes, address the traumatic events that may have led to their homelessness, and offer employment services that help them get jobs. This uniquely holistic approach empowers women to achieve personal and financial security for themselves and their families.
Today is . Did you know that of the over 30,000 supportive housing units in New York City, more than half are dedicated to providing an option for individuals with serious mental illnesses? Our neighbors living with a serious mental illness are at higher risk for experiencing homelessness; supportive housing provides stability for those impacted.

To close Rikers Island, New York City must reduce the number of individuals being sent to this disgraced facility. On October 2, HousingPlus staff joined Freedom Agenda for a Court Watch session to observe criminal court proceedings and bail negotiations. We must apply constant pressure to ensure that Rikers Island shuts its doors forever. Our presence says, "New York is watching."

25 years ago today, on September 11, 2001, New York City tragically lost over 2,500 people in the World Trade Center attacks. Many we lost were heroes; everyone we lost was our neighbor. Today, we uplift and remember all who were lost on 9/11/2001 in NYC, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, PA.
Wishing all our young people starting school in New York City today a first day full of the thrill of learning! Students among the tenant families at HousingPlus started their school year with extra supplies and extra *style* thanks to the generosity of Marble Collegiate Church. The congregation lovingly packed 150 backpacks this year, which were distributed to children throughout HousingPlus. To add to the impact, Old First Reformed UCC donated 50 additional bookbags to help even more students this year. Our thanks to all who helped make this year begin brightly, including our dedicated Board Member Mamie McIndoe, who is a congregant at Marble Church.
