HALO Program

HALO students got to visit the Student Counseling and Wellness Center at Heartland Community College and tour their space in WDC.

Students at the Pontiac campus practiced their social skills by active listening, team building, and problem solving as they built spaghetti towers with their teams!

HALO Campus Visits are still available for those looking at applying for Fall 2027. Sign up to visit our Normal or Pontiac campus and learn about the 2-Year and Transition programs, visit a HALO class and meet some of our students, and learn about our application process. Go to heartland.edu/HALO for more information or sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090B45A4AD2FA57-59185270-halo #/

The HALO Program at the Normal Campus enjoyed some time outdoors this past week during their Community Awareness class! Students visited Birkey Pond to explore the new addition to the Constitution Trail, take part in a little trail cleanup (although they found it was already looking great! 😊), and soak up the beautiful weather.

This experience also gave students the opportunity to become more familiar with a local outdoor space they can now enjoy independently. Whether taking a walk along the trail or relaxing at one of the peaceful stops along the way, students have a new place to explore, unwind, and enjoy their free time!

Have a safe & fun Halloween HALO students! 🎃👻

HALO students and families, please join us in welcoming our newest Peer Mentor, Lauren Russow! She will be hanging out with the Heartland Community College Pontiac students during their lunch and supporting students individually in their Peer Mentor meetings each week.

Sam Miller from Bridgeway came to talk to the Community Awareness classes about the services that Bridgeway offers. He shared with the HALO students that they should always strive for more and referenced a book he had written to help show how he overcame adversity as a person born with cerebral palsy. His book is called "I'm Possible," by Sam Miller. Go check it out!

Last week the HALO 2 Year Community Awareness class at Heartland Community College Pontiac learned about volunteering at the Livingston County Humane Society. Students were able to help with minor cleaning and animal socializing!🐈🐶🐾🧼

Thank you to Danny Watts from the Stepping Stones at YWCA McLean County for presenting on Healthy Relationships at our HALO Lunch and Learn. Such great information for our students and families!
