We love sharing the excitement of planned crosses, confirmed pregnancies, welcoming new foals into the world and helping make other people’s dreams come true by offering quality, affordable foals. However the reality of raising horses and mules is that sometimes despite doing everything right, things go wrong.

It is with heavy hearts we share that Gidget, one of only two mares bred to RMS Hobart for a 2027 mule foal experienced a spontaneous abortion.💔 While loss is unfortunately part of owning and breeding animals, it doesn’t make this any easier.

Despite the unavoidable lows we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do something we love, but we believe in sharing the hard parts not just the highlights. Behind every breeding program are big plans, hopes, hard work, and sometimes heartbreak. This was just a reminder that no matter how much we plan and hope, nature ultimately has the final say.

Despite losing her foal, Gidget is doing well. We are unsure of the breeding plans for her come spring but she is a favorite. Even without her own 2027 foal Gidget still made a large contribution towards our program as we are expecting foals out of her two daughters.

We’ll continue to put our hearts into our programs and look forward to the foals we are still expecting in 2027. Thank you to everyone that follows and supports our small program🩷

I swear we are always doing something with hay🌾 Feeding it, unloading it, hauling it but at least we aren’t the ones eating it😅

We might have had 40 tons hauled in last month but that’s not enough for the year so we are back at it hauling more hay in. Picked up approximately 5 more ton. we are trying to get all the hay we need until first cutting 2027 hauled home before winter.

Coturnix Quail - Small Birds, BIG Potential!🐦

One thing we love about raising quail is how versatile they are! They are little powerhouses when it comes to egg production but double as an excellent source of meat that’s easy to raise and process yourself.

We processed a bunch of birds this weekend. Let them brine for 24 hours and got them all packaged, vacuum sealed, and labeled ready for the freezer.

I’ve been struggling to post daily not for a lack of doing things throughout the day but I forget to take pictures and videos or I’m not sure how I should edit them😅

Unfortunately the algorithm won’t push what little I do post out to people unless I’m frequently posting, so here’s a beautiful fall sunset from tonight.

Spring will be here before we know it! We’ve made a few changes for our 2027 season.

We made the difficult decision to shorten our breeding season. By the end of this season, the studs and all of us felt like we were melting in the heat 😅 We feel this schedule will allow us to finish the season strong while keeping everyone’s best interest in mind.

We haven’t been posting much but I promise we’ve been up to stuff😅

We are working on replacing many of our quail breeding groups with younger birds. First fall hatch moved to the brooder today and will be headed to their new home tomorrow. Our other incubator has eggs due to hatch in 2 weeks.

Interested in raising quail from hatch to adult but don’t have an incubator? We will be offering day old chicks during the 2027 season.

Nothing like the sight of 40 tons of hay at home! This should keep everyone fed for a bit🐴 Having it delivered instead of hauling and hand stacking it ourselves felt like cheating but I’m not complaining😂
