We’ve been seeing this same tom (male cougar) for about 5 years.

Generally, we’re not in any hurry to eliminate any animals, even predators, from our land.

We haven’t had much loss with our cattle on Dry Lakes due to predatory animals. Part of that is because the calves are quite big by the time they are trailed to the mountain. The other part of that is because the mothers will be more protective than deer or other prey, so they’re not necessarily an “easy” target.

In fact, we even have a bear that’s been on our place for a long time, and we quite like him.

…unless it’s a year when bee hives need to be placed up there.😅 He was hell on those hives!🐝🍯🍂🐻

Do you know what this same disease is called in Mule Deer or even humans?

There’s typical BSE and atypical BSE, mostly stemming from the bygone practice of slaughterhouse refuse that cattle were fed; such as meat and bone meal (MBM)a high-protein byproduct but found to not be suitable for ruminants. It can also be found atypically in older, unhealthy cows.

The practice of feeding bovine meat and bone meal back to cattle has thankfully been outlawed. In fact, there’s also a greater protection called the Enhanced Feed Ban which omits specific risk material such as byproduct from infected or susceptible animals being used in pet food, poultry feed, and swine feeds.

It’s wild to think what is in the food supply for animals when we learn of things like this, isn’t it?
