Making pots that make a house feel like home. Small-batch, functional, wheel thrown pottery out of the Midwest.

It’s cooling down here in the Midwest.🍂
Time to slow down, take in the fall colors, and cozy up with a warm drink. This latest small batch of mugs are ~18oz, ornamented with a spot for your thumb, and big enough to keep both hands from getting too chilly.
Check out morningsideclay.com to see them all!
If you need me, I’ll be over here weighing out clay.
This clay from Kentucky Mudworks if so soft and gritty and I couldn’t love it more. I’m adding a different clay body into the rotation to stretch out a bit.
Stay tuned…
Check out the little detail on the handles of these fellas!
To be honest, it’s really just a small ball of clay that I smeared downward with my finger. But it’ll be the coziest spot for a thumb to rest in and fiddle with as they’re sipped from. 👍🏼

Attaching handles to a small batch of ten mugs with some cuuuuuute feet. 😙
I typically under-cut the feet on my pots (that little rim that rests on the table), but I wanted these to have a stein-like feel to complement the form of the walls.
These feel closer to the shape of mugs I threw when I was learning. My work’s skewed toward simple, clean forms recently, so these are a nice break. Variety’s the spice of life, amirite? 🙌🏼

The remains…
A more detailed look at the last six ghosts for this season. This lighting gives a great view of the detail on these ghouls. The subtle marks my fingers made when I added a swirl, the intentional imperfections of the clay, the way the glaze drips over the contours... all adding to the individuality of each piece.
Grab one of these while they last and make them part of your fall traditions. 👻
The tea light looks good on its own, but the incense adds the right touch of eerie. 👻💨
What’s the oldest handmade thing you own?
Not the most valuable. Not the fanciest.
Just the thing you’ve had forever and would be genuinely sad to lose.
Some pots found new homes today, and that’s really my favorite part.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Pendleton Indiana Farmers Market today, chatted for a while, picked something up, and especially to those who took a piece home.
I make these things to be used… to hold your morning coffee, sit on your kitchen counter, or to make an ordinary corner of your home a little more interesting.
When one leaves the table with someone, it feels like the making continues. Thanks for giving these little pieces a place in your everyday. 🙌🏼

A glimpse of my typical glazing process.
This is the part most folks don’t see… the quiet, repetitive, mostly messy work of getting a piece ready for the kiln. A 2–3 second dunk is enough for the porous clay to soak up the thick glaze.
Drips and abnormalities will add thickness and variation in the final surface that’s fun to play with. If the drips on these turn out looking like tears (and/or sweat)… 💀
