On August 31, federal regulators shut down 110 CDL training schools in a single day.

Those schools were tied to more than 5,000 drivers who failed roadside English-language proficiency checks. Another 160+ schools have received removal notices, and FMCSA is now auditing the state testers who sign off on CDL skills tests.

Here’s what matters if you hire drivers: many of those drivers still hold a valid license. A CDL that looks right doesn’t guarantee the training behind it was.
