I think one of the biggest things that stops us from trying watercolor is the feeling that we should already know how to do it.

But how would we learn if we never gave ourselves permission to begin? 💛

That’s why I created my Brush Practice Sheets.

Not to give you more rules, but to make that first brushstroke a little easier.

And if you’d like to see how we take those simple movements from printer paper to watercolor paper, come paint with me!

🍂 Tomorrow is our last Saturday Fall Watercolor Paint-Along!

🎨 LIVE on YouTube
🕒 Saturday, October 31, at 3 PM Central

We’ll paint two more fall motifs together.

And if you can’t make it, that’s okay! All our October sessions will stay on my YouTube channel, so you can watch, pause, and paint whenever you like.

Come sit beside me. Let’s make something! 🍁

💛 You can find my YouTube channel through the link in my bio.

1, 2, 3, 4… and a Fall branch comes to life! 🍂🎨

It’s amazing what you can create with just a few simple brush movements, isn’t it?

One little mark at a time, and suddenly those brushstrokes become something you recognize!

That’s what I love about practicing watercolor. You don’t have to think about the whole painting right away.

Just get to know your brush, try a few movements, and see where they take you. 💛

This Fall Branch is part of my collection of 8 Fall Watercolor Practice Sheets, created to help you explore your brush movements without worrying about getting everything perfect.

1, 2, 3, 4… and a little mushroom appears! 🍄🎨

Isn’t it fun how a few simple brush movements can come together to make something recognizable?

That’s one of my favorite things about practicing watercolor.

You don’t have to figure out the whole painting at once. Just explore one little movement at a time, and see what you can create! 💛

Why would I encourage watercolor beginners to practice on regular printer paper? 🎨

Because sometimes the hardest part of learning watercolor isn’t the painting… it’s being afraid to waste that beautiful watercolor paper!

And when you’re just beginning, you need a place to try things.

To press your brush, lift it, change direction, repeat a movement, and see what happens.

Without feeling that every brushstroke has to turn into a beautiful painting. 💛

That’s why I love using Practice Sheets printed on regular printer paper.

They’re a place to explore your brush movements. And when you’re ready to paint, that’s when watercolor paper comes in!

I’m talking more about this in Episode 5 of my Before the Technique series on YouTube.

It’s funny how something that looks complicated can start with one simple brushstroke. 🍂

That’s one of my favorite things about learning watercolor using practice sheets.

You repeat a brushstroke a few times, your hand starts getting familiar with it, and suddenly you’re not thinking so much about *how* to move your brush.

You’re just painting. 💛

And I love that we can practice those movements while making actual paintings!

We’re also painting the fall motifs together on YouTube every Saturday at 3 PM Central. The replays stay on my channel, so you can join whenever you have time.

What I love about these little practice sheets? 🍂

You can sit down, pick up your brush, and actually start painting.

No spending 20 minutes deciding what to draw first. 😂

And once the first brushstroke is down, things get interesting.

You start wondering… what if I add more water? What if I try another brown? What if I add a little texture here?

That’s the part I want you to enjoy. The exploring. The playing. The little surprises.

And today we are painting it together during a LIVE in my YouTube channel at 3 pm central time. See you there!

1, 2, 3, 4, and there it is. One brush, one simple movement, and a completely different shape. Practice it first on a practice sheet, then take it to watercolor paper.

Mistakes? Yeah! Mistakes. 🎨 The more you practice, the closer you get to finding what you actually love. It's in the doing. So keep painting, keep exploring, and enjoy those little mistakes.
