The Zion Canyon and Springdale shuttle schedule changes today, October 25th!
These changes are especially important if you are planning to hike a longer/backpacking route that ends in the Main Canyon.
If you have trip planning questions please reach out! Email [email protected] or give us a call at 435-772-1001.
When hiking in the desert, please always be aware of the current weather and flash flood potential. The risk is especially high in narrow slot canyons. If storms are in the forecast, we strongly recommend making alternative plans.
Remember, just because the Narrows is open does not indicate that it is necessary safe for hikers. The National Park will close the Narrows if the flow rate reaches 150 cfs or above, or we are under an active Flash Flood Warning.
Keep in mind: even clear blue skies don’t guarantee safety — flash floods can start miles away. When checking the weather, we also check the watershed up canyon that feeds into the Narrows.
Aside from the presence of an incoming rain storm, there are four warning signs that there is an incoming flash flood. Any combination of the following four signs are an indicator:
1. Rapidly rising water levels.
2. Rapid increase in current speed (CFS).
3. Sudden change from clear water to brown, muddy, and churning current.
4. Large pieces of debris flowing downstream.
In the event of a flash flood, seek high ground and get out of the way of the water. Do not attempt to beat the flood out of the canyon. Remember — when in doubt, stay the heck out.
At Zion Adventures® we monitor the weather daily, comparing multiple weather forecasts. We also monitor flash flood potential, the flow rate of the river, and any warnings released by the National Park and National Weather Service. If you would like to chat with an outfitter about weather assessment, please call us or stop in. We’re always happy to chat :)
You’ve arrived in Zion and it’s raining, what should you do??
Yesterday, some of our crew took e-bikes up the Main Canyon to participate in the longstanding local tradition of waterfall chasing. We lost count of how many we saw!
Zion is formed in large part by slickrock, or sandstone, with little to no top soil. A quarter to a half an inch of rainfall might not seem like much, however it doesn’t soak into the ground- it runs off into washes, through canyons, and even off the sides of the cliffs.
If waterfall chasing is something you think you’d enjoy, snag an e-bike and head up canyon!!
Please know that trails near the Virgin river or other washes can wash out if the river is running high. Some hikes become unsafe for hikers. Stay out of narrow canyon systems and runoff washes. If you are looking for low risk hike recommendations while it’s raining, chat with a ranger or stop in! We’re always happy to help :)

The Zion Mt. Carmel Highway will reopen tomorrow, October 9th.
Thank you to the park, crews, and specialists who have worked hard to remove the rock and debris. We appreciate you immensely.

From October 5th-October 8th Angels Landing will be closed due to scheduled trail maintenance.
We’ve collected some alternative hikes and adventures that may accomplish the views and/or vertical challenge visitors are seeking when they choose Angels Landing.
Happy adventures!

Due to a rockfall, the Zion Mt. Carmel Highway is closed from Canyon Junction through the East Entrance.
Visitors driving to the Main Canyon should expect increased travel time and restricted access to the park. Shuttles up the Main Canyon are running as normal.
Visitors coming from popular travel destinations, like Bryce Canyon, have two main options: connecting with I-15 west of the park, or SR-59 south of the park. We’ve collected some alternative routes to Zion from Bryce Canyon NP, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell (Page, AZ), and Escalante/Capitol Reef.
*Please note: when searching alternate routes, some suggestions from Google and Apple Maps included unpaved roads that are impassible when wet and/or require a 4WD vehicle*
The road through the East Side will be closed until further notice. We are appreciative of all the hard work from crews removing the rock and repairing the road- they have no easy task.
If you are coming to town during this closure, the Main Canyon (access to The Zion Narrows, Angels Landing, Emerald Pools, etc.) is fully opperational. We reccomend taking a look at hikes in the Kolob Canyons or Kolob Terrace Road area of the park in lue of an East Side Adventure.
We will let you know when we have an update!

This week our guide corps competed in the Annual Zion Adventures Guide Olympics!
5 events, 10 guides, and a fierce competitive spirit. We even heard people were training for the rope stacking event…
Our guides work incredibly hard day in and day out helping visitors check off their Zion bucket list items. Long days in the sun, heavy packs on their backs, and yet they always come to work with a smile on their face. We love and appreciate everything they do. Here’s to our 2026 guide corps🫶🏻
