90 minutes.
That's how long some Vermont students spend riding to school each way when there aren't enough drivers.
The good news?
One more qualified driver can make a big difference. Smaller school buses require a regular driver's license and a Type II endorsement, with no DMV endorsement fee.

Step 1 of 5 to driving a school bus in Vermont is the easy one: a valid Vermont driver's license.
If you have one, you're already on your way. The smaller bus doesn't require a CDL. Call your local school or bus company, and they'll take you through the rest (a physical, a one-day clinic, a knowledge test, a road test), usually in a few weeks.

Myth: You need a CDL to drive a school bus.
Fact: The smaller Type II school busses take a regular Vermont driver's license. Add a physical, a one-day clinic, a knowledge test, and a road test, and you're a school bus driver. There's no DMV fee for the Type II endorsement.
Vermont schools need drivers in every county. Start by calling your local school or bus company; they'll walk you through the clinic and testing. See the steps: https://dmv.vermont.gov/CVO/school-bus
