Enrichment Works
We are an award-winning nonprofit theater arts organization that performs and teaches at schools and libraries.
Since 1999 Enrichment Works has successfully marshaled Broadway and Hollywood talent in the cause of improving education through theater arts, originating more than 50 productions based on educational content standards and presenting more than 6,000 performances in schools, libraries and museums. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in 2008 awarded the organization an "Access to Excellence" grant. Governor Schwarznegger, the California State Senate and Assembly, the City and County of Los Angeles, and the US Congress have all recognized the organization. The Valley Interfaith Council (VIC) bestowed its 2006 Human Relations Award for Entertainment Leadership to Enrichment Works and its Board Member Hector Elizondo; and the Hon. Don Knabe, Dist. 4 Supervisor, awarded the organization an Arts Education Partnership Grant in each of the last three years. Enrichment Works Founder and Executive Director Abraham Tetenbaum received the Creative Vision Award from Creative Line Magazine for his work at the nonprofit. Enrichment Works productions have performed at such prestigious local venues as the Grammy Museum, the Skirball Cultural Center, the Autry Museum and the Armstrong Theatre of the Torrance Cultural Arts Center. In addition to plays featuring role models from History, Literature, and Science, Enrichment Works productions have taken on contemporary issues such as childhood obesity, gun safety, financial literacy, sexually transmitted diseases among teens, and hate crimes against Muslim-Americans. Enrichment Works has produced the work of Emmy and NY Drama Desk Award winners and the organization's actors frequently appear on network television as well as in local theaters. Some have gone directly from the school auditorium to the Broadway stage or the Cannes Film Festival.

This week the LA City Council voted to rename downtown’s Pershing Square to Biddy Mason Park.
Before her name was on the park, her story was on our stages. In 2018, Enrichment Works produced an original work about her life performing it dozens of times for thousands of local students.
Biddy Mason's legacy is a vital part of Los Angeles history. Born into slavery, she walked 1,700 miles to Utah and then onto California. Once here, she successfully petitioned the court for her freedom and the freedom of others. She went on to work as a nurse and midwife, purchased land in what is now downtown LA, and founded the First AME Church.
And that's what we mean when we say "Theater to Inspire Learning."

It was wonderful spending the day documenting more stories to share with teachers and students who see our play "Shizzy's Story."
